    Team Kennard-Porter (Chapter 22)

Bette waited for the girls outside of res, resting on some beach chairs that were set up in the back. She had been happy to hear that nothing went horribly wrong when Tina had spoken to Helena earlier, but was also wary that the woman would listen.

She just wanted this evening to go over smoothly, but she was worried about her own ability to take these things in stride. Tina meant more to her than anything, and hearing some so wicked as Helena talking about her crudely was not something she could handle. She took a deep breath in and out, realizing that she would have to be calm for her and Tina’s sake, or they would be found out for sure.

"Hey Porter," Shane started, walking over and sitting on the chair next to her, "I didn’t know we were getting all dressed up." She looked over Bette’s stylish little black dress and heels of which she’d never seen before, and was surprised.

Bette smiled and opened her eyes to Shane, "Tina asked me to wear this."

That was the first time Shane had heard Bette use Tina’s first name, and she found it very sweet. She just nodded, relaxing in the chair next to Bette. "Gotcha."

After they had both relaxed, they heard a voice that unsettled them once again.

"I think I’ll ask Tina out," Helena said aloud, nearly smiling, but stopping herself. Bette and Shane both turned to her in disbelief. "I mean, it’s not like anyone else is seeing her, right?"

Shane couldn’t believe what she was seeing, but even more surprised that Bette hadn’t leapt over the coffee table to strangle her for being so sneaky and underhanded this whole time. After hearing some of the things Helena had said, Shane understood Bette’s temper. She knew her friend well, and she knew Bette would do anything in her power to keep someone from saying such things about the woman she loved.

"She doesn’t even like you," Bette said calmly, having to restrain herself continuously. She needed to have some self control.

Then Helena grinned, "She’s really something though … I mean have you ever looked at her? I mean reeeally looked? I know I have."

Bette shifted a bit in her seat, but forced herself to lean back into her chair so she wouldn’t be tempted. ‘Kill the bitch,’ was sounding in her head, but she knew she would have to handle this with words. The only problem was, she couldn’t find the words. Her anger was getting the better of her.
