    Temper, Temper Chapter 7

    The court case
Tina was frantic. She was standing in the court house looking through the window hoping to see Bette. Since their last meeting she had been unable to reach her, her cell phone had been turned off and Walter had said she was not at home. The only thing that was helping Tina to keep her sanity was that Walter had spoken to Bette’s sister who had said she had left a note saying everything was fine. That and the fact that Walter said this was not the first time she had taken herself off for a few days. With only minutes to go until the start of the case Tina had no idea whether Bette would turn up or not.
Outside the reporters were gathering and after Aidan Hall Senior had verbally whipped them into a frenzy it was rapidly turning into a three ring circus.

It was then that Tina saw Bette, her head was held high and she was walking up the steps to the courthouse. At that moment the clerk of court reminded her that they needed to start immediately. “She’s here” said Tina, “Just give me five minutes”.

As Tina looked back towards Bette it became obvious that the press had realised who she was. Tina ran down the steps and grabbed Bette and almost propelled her through the door whilst repeatedly saying “No comment” in response to the barrage of questions from the reporters.

Tina kept the momentum going and managed to steer Bette into her seat just as the judge entered. ‘Well’ she thought ‘No time for a briefing, no time to compare notes, this could turn out to be a real wing and a prayer case’.

Both attorneys gave their opening statements whilst Bette sat there throughout looking composed but strangely detached. The case began to progress just as Tina though it would with no real surprises, in fact Aidan’s attorney was very kindly setting up his client for Tina to shoot him down in flames. After a couple of hours the judge called a recess and Tina was relieved that she would finally get chance to talk to Bette who, until this point, had not uttered a word.
