PART TWO: SANTA CATALINA ISLAND

Chapter 3

We had an absolutely delightful trip to Catalina. The heat wave that was smothering Southern California with bad air and high temperatures was behind us It was a beautiful day to be on the water and everyone was in high spirits.

Of course, a little libation helped. There were two bars. One in the living room which led back into a dining room that seated ten, plus one on the open deck where there were comfy patio chairs and chaise lounges by a small swimming pool.

When Angie saw the pool she wanted to swim and got all excited but the water was just too wavy. When the bow of the ship dipped down into the sea, the water in the pool sloshed forward and then back again and neither one of us had our bathing suits handy to go in with her.

It was a good reason for Bette to take Angie back from Terry though and I could tell she felt more comfortable being in charge of her again. I knew she was a little nervous about Angie running off and getting too close to the railings which were not exactly child proofed.

She put her down in one of the chairs and pulled another one close to it. I went to get Bette and I a tall Bloody Mary and a virgin Mimosa with two cherries for her daughter.

The men drifted back inside but Ellen and Portia joined us at the pool. Portia asked if she could get Angie a sweet roll and Bette said that would be nice, so she brought it back on a small plate with a cloth napkin. I knew it was a treat for Angie because it was not Bette’s idea of healthy food and I know I was a bad example because I ate what was left.

Ellen and her partner were very nice and I might add, extreme opposites.. Portia wore a flashy Kaftan with a lot of jewelry and sandals while Ellen had on a very casual but quality tee with shorts and flip flops. That said it all but they were really cute together.
