The Adventures Of Bette Porter And Sissee Gardner Schmidt After Tina (Part 2, Chapter 17)
The Adventures Of Bette Porter And Sissee Gardner Schmidt After Tina (Part 2, Chapter 17)
PART TWO: MAUI
Chapter 17
Grace Frye cleared her throat and began Patsy and Linda’s Commitment Ceremony, smiling at each of us in turn, as she said, “We have come together to this beautiful place, to witness the most beautiful of unions, that of two loving beings coming together as one, committed to each other for all eternity. We are here to support the partnership they choose to build and to bless the vows they make to each other today.”
Grace hesitated a moment and then said, “Patsy Darden and Linda Jensen, you come before God and before us today declaring that from this day on, one will never be alone, for the other will always be with her in actual body or spirit. One will never be frightened for long, for the other will provide strength and hope and shelter in loving arms. One will never feel lost, because the other will always be a beacon, like a candle in a window, to bring her safely home again.
“This service is not magic. It will not create a relationship that does not already exist. It is a time for declaring vows and intentions and for facing the uncertainties of the future with one thing of which you are certain, your love for one another and your desire for that love to last forever.
“I ask you both to turn and face each other, as you say your vows.”
They did that and Patsy, who was still holding one of Linda’s hands, picked up her other one and held them both at their sides.
“Patsy,” continued Grace, “Look into the eyes of the one you love and repeat after me. ‘Linda, I love you with all my heart and soul.’ ”
Patsy did repeat those words and we were amazed at the tiny voice that came out. It was not the robust, in-your-face Patsy. She was genuinely touched with raw emotions and feelings.
Grace went on and told her what to say next. Patsy repeated it. “I promise to love, honor and respect the person that you are and to always support you in becoming the person you want to be.”

Bette’s Babe, Thanks for your comments. I guess Patsy and Linda’s background doesn’t matter. It was just how Bette and Sissee were touched by the Commitment Ceremony. As for Bette meeting Jodi in future Adventure stories, yes, that will happen. There will also be Planet meetings with the rest of the girls. TLW characters intertwine with Bette and Sissee’s lives. I hope you’ll stick around to read all about it.
Here they go. . . don’t keep us waiting too long. The commitment ceremony was beautiful, by the way.
ld18, As I wrote after the last chapter, that ceremony was a collaborate effort. I asked one of my earlier readers to help me out on that one and then I added a touch here and there. She did a good job.
Very touching indeed. I always cry at weddings & this one was no exception. Very beautiful. I’m glad B&S have some wonderful memories to look back on, because the next few days or weeks are going to be very hard on them both (I’m getting my seat belt ready). Thanks Sissee.
A beautiful wedding indeed, Sissee the writer. It’s a bit surprise to me as well, to see Patsy being the emotional one and Linda being the strong one to step up and support her partner. We don’t really know L & P’s background, so I probably imagine B would be the emotional one if they ever commit their relationship like that (I think I am dreaming here, realizing that the two have to face the bumpy road ahead). Personally I am afraid Bette will meet Jodie in the next adventure story and Sissee would need to face her own family in reality (to tell Howie, & the three adult children about Bette and her relationship). I want to be optimistic, but….. Thanks Sissee for this chapter, I really want to see them heading toward a good future. Just need to remind myself to be patient here.
kbergin47, Thanks for your comments. Sometimes adversity brings people closer together.
I’m nervous about what’s going to happen, will Tina want bette back after knowing she’s really out of reach. Is it enough for them each to break away from their previous relationships…biting my nails!!!!
honda90, Make sure you’re wearing your seat belt when you read the next few chapters. There’s a bumpy road ahead!
I need tissues…nice wedding. I really like that Linda. She seems so cool. I wonder if or when B&S hit the bumpy road they (L&P)will come to help them out. Are you sure we need a seat belt? maybe I shouldn’t read those ones, I can’t take it seeing them in pain. Love, passion, talks i can but pain no…so pleeeeeeeeeeaaase make them be in love 100%
September, Glad to see you back here. You better keep those tissues handy. Last night I was preparing the next chapter and I couldn’t stop. I have not read these Tina parts for two years and I just kept reading and reading as if it was someone else’s story. Forgive me, but I have to admit I was fascinated and actually did cry. I never got to bed until 1 p.m. and then I had to force myself to stop. I don’t mean for that to sound grandiose. It just honestly is the simple truth.
