The Beast and The Beauty Chp 3

Carmen woke up the next morning to find Shane gone.

    Carmen: Shit!

She got up and ran downstairs finding Shane staring at the birds through the glass sliding doors. She leaned on the wall watching how attentive Shane was. Shane knew Carmen was behind her, she heard her long before she saw her. She woke up early because she was just used to it. Her shoulder was a bit sore. Shane stood up at looked at Carmen. She smiled at her.

Carmen: Come here, I’ll make you some breakfast.

Shane obeyed her and ran to Carmen. Carmen thought Shane would crash into her but was surprised when the lanky girl stopped centimeters from her. She could feel Shane’s breath on her. Carmen looked up into those green eyes. They were brighter than last night. It took a lot of self-control to tear herself away. She grabbed Shane’s hand and led her to the kitchen. Carmen started making a pancake mix. She would make blueberry pancakes for the both of them. She gave Shane a spatula and told her to stir. She did it exactly like Carmen did. Carmen washed the blueberries. She held one up for Shane to try. It was a close call because Shane nearly bit off all her fingers. But they had fun. Shane smiled more. She was less tense than the night before. She was starting to feel attached to the fragile being who mumbled in her sleep. Carmen got out a pan and turned on the fire. Shane was amazed by it. While Carmen rummaged through the cabinet for some butter, Shane put down her bowl and spatula. She touched the hot pan and yelped. Carmen turned around to see Shane’s burned hand.

Carmen: Shane! You can’t touch that!

She knew Shane must’ve thought it was okay because she saw her take it out of the cabinet. Grabbing Shane’s hand, she put some gauze on it scolding Shane while she was doing it. Shane’s brow furrowed knowing she did something bad. Carmen had to smile at that puppy face that looked at her. She ruffled Shane’s unkempt hair.

Carmen: Go sit, I’ll finish and bring you pancakes.
