    The Color of Love

Tina nervously entered the gallery hoping Bette would be in a meeting or on vacation, out to lunch, anywhere but there. She needed to get her earring and she appreciated Bette finding it, but there was something about Bette that Tina didn’t trust. Or maybe there was something about herself that Tina didn’t trust. Either way Tina just wanted to get her stuff and get out. She approached the receptionist’s desk quietly hoping if Bette was around she wouldn’t hear her.

Tina: Excuse me, my name is Tina Kennard and Bette Porter found my earring the other night after the show. I was just stopping by to pick it up.

The receptionist blushed a little and told Tina she would be right back.

Tina wandered the front of the gallery admiring the same paintings she had just a few nights ago. Her favorite one however was not there. She assumed it had been sold.

    Bette: Tina.

Tina spun around nervous at the sound of Bette’s voice.

    Tina: Hey, hi Bette.

Bette: You look great. Are you headed somewhere special?

Tina: Oh no, just back to work. I only have a half hour left on my lunch break.

That was a lie. Tina wasn’t working this week. She had been so exhausted from the last shoot that she took a weeks vacation.

Bette: Ok, then follow me. I’ll get you your earring.

Tina followed Bette into her office. It was beautiful and reminded her of Bette. Sophisticated and *****.

Tina immediately stopped and scolded herself. Tina what the ***** are you doing? Your straight. You like boys. Lots of boys. Only boys.

    Bette: Here ya go.

Bette came toward her holding the earring. Tina put her hand out but Bette pushed closer.

Bette: I’ll put it in for you.

Bette leaned into Tina, her mouth almost touching Tina’s neck. She gently slipped the earring in.

Bette let a rush of warm air from her mouth hit Tina’s ear lobe.
Tina suppressed a slight moan, which did not go un noticed by Bette.

Bette was enjoying watching Tina squirm. She knew Tina was with Eric, but that never stopped Bette Porter before. Besides she could tell Tina was feeling something for her.

Tina pulled away as quickly as she good.

Tina: Thanks Bette. I appreciate it.

Bette said nothing. She stood there eyeing Tina like a tiger.

Tina: So, I should go then. If I’m late to my doctors appointment they’ll cancel it.

Bette smirked. She had caught her.

Bette: I thought you were going back to work?

    Tina: Oh yeahshit!

    Tina’s face was bright red.

    Tina: Umm, well, I

Bette: It’s ok Tina. I can see I make you uncomfortable.

Tina: No Bette, that’s not it. I make ME uncomfortable.

Bette laughed, She could see Tina beginning to blush.

    Bette: I think you’re beautiful.

Tina: Oh, uh, thanks. So are you.

    Bette: Have dinner with me.

Tina noticed that Bette did not ask her to dinner, she commanded her to have dinner.
She wanted to scream yes. She wanted to recommend lunch instead because it was sooner, but she didn’t. She stayed cool.

    Tina: Oh Bette, I’m sorry I can’t.

    Bette: Eric?

    Tina: Who?

Bette raised an eye brow at Tina.
Tina: Oh right. No, not Eric.

Tina had practically forgotten about him.

    Tina: I just can’t tonight.

    Bette; Tomorrow?

    Tina: I’m sorry

    Bette: Saturday night?

Tina knew she wasn’t going to win this one.

    Tina: ok.

Bette: Great. Meet me here at 7. Is that time ok?

    Tina: Yeah that’s fine.

Bette: Great. I’ll show you out.

Tina followed Bette to the door. She tried to analyze what had just happened in her head. Did Bette Porter just ask you out on a date? Oh my god, Tina you have a date with a woman and not just any woman, THE woman. Maybe it wasn’t even a date. It’s probably not even a date Kennard!

Bette: Ok so Saturday, it’s a date then.

    Tina smiled nervously.

    Tina: Yup, it’s a date.

Tina walked out the door as quickly as she could hoping Bette didn’t smell the fear pouring off of her.

Bette stood in the doorway smiling. The hunter and it’s prey.
