    The Crown Rests 7

Bette thought she better get up and make some coffee rather than give Tina the opportunity to rag on her even more.  Before she went downstairs she laid out some fresh clothes for Tina.

When Tina came downstairs it was to the smell of freshly brewed coffee, warming French pastries and singing.  At first Tina thought it was the radio but in fact Bette was singing ‘My Baby Just Cares For Me’ while effecting a sort of Latino dance routine which involved sloshing milk and coffee all over the place.

“I see someone’s got their happy head on this morning!” Tina said through a smile and raising an eyebrow.

“Well it feels like a beautiful day”

“How’s that exactly?” Tina asked feigning indifference but hoping she had a hand in Bette’s happy disposition; while getting a cloth to wipe up Bette’s spillages.

“I see it comes to something when a person is cross-examined for exhibiting a happy outlook!  Mmm there are mitigating circumstances; let me see I woke up next to the most beautiful woman who was kind enough to give me the most exquisite kiss and all this happened within moments of me opening my eyes.” By this time Bette had manoeuvred herself up behind Tina and wrapped her arms around Tina’s waist, “And do you know I feel so lucky today I feel another kiss coming on!” With that Bette gently spun Tina around and kissed her full on the lips.

“Wow happy and frisky! I think we better have breakfast before we get carried away again.”

“Once again your argument is very sound Miss Kennard.”

They ate their breakfast while reading the morning papers and within the hour were ready to set off to pick up Tina’s things for the weekend.

Tina lived in a beautiful Victorian artisan’s cottage in a quiet little street in Hackney.  Bette was very impressed with the way Tina had restored the little house, Tina had told her on the drive over that the house was in a semi derelict sate when she’d bought it and that many of the original features had been boarded up or ripped out by previous owners. She was particularly impressed with state of the art kitchen.  After mooching around on her own for a while Bette called out to Tina.

    1. Well, I am certain that Lily is not a person. I am betting on little sister, dog, horse (that one’s a stretch), or maybe cat. She would not take Tina there and then do something like spring a girlfriend on her. How cruel would that be? Love the story. Been waiting for you to post—come back soon :-)

    2. Great, two quick updates on this great story. So lets see, Lilly, a daughter? No, she wouldn’t leave her in another town, would she? The family dog jumped in her arms? I’ll go with that–because I can’t even think it’s a woman. Nice job.

    3. i don’t comment much but would like to say i’m loving this story, i noticed in chapter 2 you mentioned the north east & ryhope grammar school, i live in the north east & attended that very school
