Dana was about to responed when she caught a flash of light off to the side and quickly rolled off Alice to lay right beside her.

"What the…" Alice began only to be cut off by a new vioce.

"Good evening ladies.. or maybe I should say good morning," a tall police officer greeted.

A zillion thoughts ran through Dana’s mind, the most prominent being Why me?,  which left her rendered speechless in front of the two LAPD officers.

"Good morning," Alice replied recovering quickly from her initial shock. "Can we help you with anything officers?"

"We are just making our rounds. What are you ladies doing out here so early," the other officer questioned with a quarked eyebrow, obviously know he had just interrupted something.

"Just waiting for the sunrise. Only about an hour to wait. It’s supposed to be spectacular this morning I hear," Alice said nugging Dana with her elbow.

“Yeah! The sunrise! We don’t want to miss that… you know it doesn’t happen that often,” Dana said quickly nodding until she realized what she just said. “I mean this particular sunrise… your supposed to be able to see jupiter this morning really clearly because obviously you can see the sunrise every morning because that’s what it does in the morning… rise…and all.”

The two police officers looked from Dana to Alice trying to keep in there smiles.

“Just remember this is a public beach ladies,” the taller officer said as he started to walk away.

“Enjoy the sunrise,” the other officer said as he departed as well.

For two whole minutes neither girl said anything. Then Alice couldn’t help herself any longer and started howling in laughter. Rolling over slightly to rest her head on Dana’s shoulder, Alice’s whole body shook with her giggles.

After a few moments, Alcie noticed she was the only one laughing. Taking in the set of the brunette’s jaw and the crease of her brow the blonde said, “Oh baby, you gotta admit that was a little funny.”

“That was sooo embarassing Alice! I thought for sure they we’re going to throw us in jail for something…”

“What? For making out on the beach,” Alice question sitting up slightly to get a better look at Dana. “Come on, it is a little funny. Admit it.”

“Okay, maybe it was.” Waiting a beat Dana continues, “Maybe it is for the best too.”

Confused Alice asked, “What do you mean?”

Sitting up Dana, motioned for Alice to move to sit in between her legs. Once settled with her arms around Alice’s waist and her back pressed to her front, Dana rested her chin on Alice’s shoulder and whispered, “When we make love Alice.  I don’t want to worry about anything. Not about people interrupting or sand getting into place that we’d reget. Just you and me baby.”

Sighing happily Alice said, “I want that too.”

In the silence of the impending sunrise, both women thought about what they really wanted to say to each other: I love you.
