    Chapter 17

    Bette turned her head “Hey, I got hungry and started a war with some eggs”

    Tina peered over Bette’s shoulder “And the eggs won I see” she giggled as she removed the pan containing something completely inedible from the stove.

    “Fish & chips” Tina suggested “I’ll even go for them”

    “Sounds good” Bette agreed “But I’ll go, you’ve done enough today” She added removing the tea towel she had placed over her shoulder earlier and looping it over Tina’s head using it to pull her towards her.

    Tina smiled “Can I help you?” she asked cheekily allowing herself to be dragged closer still.

    Bette answered with her lips capturing Tina’s in a gentle kiss “You just did” she said pulling back slightly.

    It was not often that the obvious need to be voiced but god only knows what doubts were infesting themselves in Bette’s mind “I’ve got you, no matter what” Tina promised.

    Bette smiled, nodded. “I know”

    “Good, now move you ass I’m starving” Tina removed the tea towel from around her neck, swatting Bette with it.

    “I’m going, I’m going” Bette said quickly retreating. “What do you want, the usual”

    Tina’s eyes lit up at the thought of good old English fish, chips and mushy peas. “Yeah”

    Tina was half way through clearing up the debacle that was Bette’s attempt at an omelette when she heard the front door open, then close “What did you forget” She called from the kitchen, she jumped when the voice that responded was not Bette’s

    “Hello” Patty said standing in the doorway

    “Oh god” Tina said “You frightened the cr….” Tina cut herself short “Hi, Patty, right” she added recognizing Bette’s aunt.

    “I’m surprised you remember me Tina,it’s been a while, is Elizabeth here”

    “Who, oh you mean Bette, no she’s just popped out, she won’t be long, can I get you a drink”

    Patty wasn’t really thirsty but keeping Tina occupied while she looked in her brothers study was probably a good idea “Tea would be lovely thank you”

    Tina turned her back to fill the kettle with water, switching it on she turned “milk…Where the fuck did she go” she said to herself as the visitor was no where to be seen.

    7. My dear Skimmy, I loved the chapter. It’s nice to know that Kit and Maxine didn’t completely give up on Bette, and that Kit’s thinking of Bette’s well-being when she refuses to contact her. After all, if Bette hadn’t checked Melvin’s study, she would have never known and it would have been hard to hear the whole thing from Kit. I hope aunt Patty lets Kit know that Bette knows. I’m sure Kit will step up to the plate then. Also, I know I owe you a reply and some thanks, but I’ve been swamped. Thanks, buddy!
