Bette and Tina were getting ready for dinner “You look amazing” Bette said kissing Tina’s shoulder.

“Yeah?” Tina glowed.

“Amazing” Bette repeated taking Tina’s hand. They came to the dinner table Melvin already waiting for them. They sat down making small talks.

“So, Bette how’s school?” Melvin asked.

“Good” Bette smiled waiting.

Melvin nodded, “I guess you’re ahead of your class”

“Mm?” Bette inquired.

“To allow yourself to miss classes you must be ahead.”

“I didn’t…”

“It has come to my realization you’ve missed quit a few”

“Who told you that? Do you have someone spying on me?” Bette said getting angrier.

“That isn’t important” Melvin dismissed “What’s important is that you make sure your grades will not suffer”

Bette shook her head.

“I’m serious Elizabeth, it’s not enough that you decided to study art, at least put some effort in it” He said with contempt.

Bette rolled her eyes.

“Did you know Tina” He said looking at her, “That with her grades she could study anything?”

“I’m sure” Tina smiled squeezing Bette’s hand.

“With her mind… she could’ve been an amazing lawyer, just like her dad”

Bette bit her tongue. “Such a waist”

“It is” Melvin said looking at Bette.

“Sorry to be such a disappointment” Bette said getting up.

Tina sat at the table looking at Melvin. “I should…”

Melvin sighed, “She’s probably at the lake”

Tina nodded getting up.

“I am proud of her.” Melvin said to Tina shaking his head.

Tina nodded leaving.

Bette was sitting next to the lake lighting a cigarette she looked at the moon willing herself to relax. She heard the car behind her, not moving she exhaled the smoke.

Tina sat down next to her she looked at the cigarette. “I didn’t know you smoke” She gently said.

“At times” Bette said not looking at Tina.

Tina took the cigarette holding it. Bette looked as Tina threw it away. “You littered.”

Tina cupped Bette’s cheek, “It’s ok”

Tears formed in Bette’s eyes, “I hate when he does that…”

Tina kissed Bette’s forehead lowering it to her lap she caressed Bette’s hair.
