Chapter Thirteen
At exactly 11:45 am on Friday morning, Tina opened up her car door and slid a shapely leg out onto the pavement of the Thai Palace’s parking lot. The shapely leg led to the skirt of her tailored, tan, linen suit and as she exited the vehicle, Tina smoothed down the skirt and took one last glimpse of herself in the side mirror.
She went inside the chic restaurant and despite the hustle and bustle of the lunchtime crowd, she was able to be seated at a relatively quiet table for two. She was waiting only a few moments, when the sight of Bette’s long, straightened hair and eye-catching figure made her breath hitch in her throat. She could see Bette’s eyes squint as her former lover looked around the room, searching for her. Tina’s eyes studied the statuesque woman that used to belong to her and felt her body respond to the sexiness that was apparent even at her distance.
Bette was wearing a dressy red tank that showed off her toned arms. The tank blended with a white mid-calf length skirt that billowed slightly when walked and looked more than elegant when she stood still.
Eventually, their eyes met and Bette smiled softly before making her way over to the table.
Tina stood and they shared an awkward moment; unsure of how to greet one another in this post marriage phase of their relationship. They decided on a brief hug that was uncomfortable for Bette but left Tina wanting more.
"Sorry, I’m a little late," Bette said, as she sat down across from Tina.
"Don’t worry. I understand. I ordered for you. I hope that’s okay," Tina replied.
Bette gave a tight smile. "Sure."
"So, tell me, how is the new job coming along?" Tina asked.
The tight smile Bette started with gave way to a broad grin than made Tina’s insides tingle. "It’s great. It’s probably the best position I’ve had in a long time. Far better than the shit grunt work I was doing for the CAC. I’m much happier there."
"You seem…you seem happy," Tina replied.
"I am. And I don’t know that I’ve been this happy in a long time. I just feel almost reborn. There’s so much life and curious intellectual pursuit within academia. I’ve missed that. I love art just because it’s art and I’m surrounded by these fresh young thinkers that crave art the same way I do. At the CAC, all decisions revolved around meeting budget goals. A lot of the love behind the creativity of the work was missing. We were there to hit our financial targets, not to fully appreciate the work."

Like you I’m a Bette-er, in fact a Jennifer.B-er. I followed her to Lie to Me as I’ll definitely do with Ride Along especially with reports that she’ll be a “Bette 100 times”. Back to TLW and your fic, what can I say? I have a soft spot for Tina and I find her the most right person for Bette, plus they are soul-mates (*winking* I’m doing my best to help favoring Tibette). I’m, too, an anti-JoBetter and to quote Bette still “flabbergasted” to why the writers kept Jodie for so long despite despite the evident lack of chemistry and the negative reviews they got…. Whatever, if you want to introduce her in your fic, give us a notice please so I can make some relaxation exercises. Read you soon.
well, even though my tibette hearts hoping for B&T reunion, i’m really interested to know where it’s going…i could never see Bette and Helena more than friends and i think at this time they could indeed offer each other some support..really feel for Tina right now
Part of me feels sorry for Tina, the other part feels this is what she deserves to go through because of the pain she inflicted on Bette. I want her to grow up and win Bette back. I’m not a Belena fan, but I’m enjoying the approach you’re taking. PPS
I totally get how you feel about Bette, I feel the same way about Tina. I love Tibette and I too am anti-Jobette but my heart belongs to Tina, despite the fact that the writers didn’t do much to make me love her.Unlike you I felled in love with Tibette in the first season because of the pregnancy scene and the last scene of that season. The pregnancy scene gave me a look into how their relationship might have been before, they stopped working at it and the last scene despite how ugly it started showed how much passion they still had for each other because you don’t react that strongly to someone you don’t love or hate very deeply. But I didn’t want them back together in S2,S3 or even the begin of S4 because I didn’t think either of them had done the work in themselves that was needed to make the relationship a lasting one but in S5 I was ready for them and wanted them together. And like you great fan-fiction like yours help me fall deeper in love with Tibette and Tina and Bette as separate characters. Thank you
Like you I was more of a Bett-er from the start. I think the obvious lapses in the arc of this pairing on the show, coupled with IC’s lack of faith in them, screwed us Tibetters. She never wanted to have them end up together and admitted that she basically caved under the tremendous outpouring of devotion to this pairing from us fans. I like you, HATED JoBette. there was no chemistry there. anywho, I appreciate the fact that you are flirting with the idea of Bette and Helena. Bette needs to show Tina that the world does not revolve around her. can’t wait to see where you are going with this one.
This story is so well written and adult. Damn, you can write. The multi layers, the psychological battles, all make for a joy to read.

I love your writing, MTS. Always have. It is hard to read a flirty Bette and Helena. Maybe Bette will realize that it is a friendship from Helena that will suit them the best. I know Bette and Tina have a long road ahead, but a relationship with Helena would only add too many detours and crush Tina along the way. Oh, the anguish, lol. Great update!
I too am a Tina lover and a Tibetter and I would like to see them back together, but after the way T treated Bette (not that B didn’t treat T aweful too) I would be so afraid of getting back with her. They need time apart. I like where this is going so far. PPS!!

I am so enjoying your story and I have to agree with the majority that the JoBette pairing was the worst pairing ever, although there was a chemistry between those two, but it wasn’t as lovers, but in my opinion they would have made very good friends. As Alice, Jodi sometimes had a tendency to bring out Bette’s playful and carefree side. As for Tina’s interaction with Bette in your story, it was pretentious of Tina to expect for Bette to read between the lines and jump in and be her knight in shining armor. Helena’s timing was impeccable, she really saved Bette from an uncomfortable situation and unknowingly gave Tina food for thought. Hope now Tina takes the time to really think about what she wants for her future and doesn’t make any rash decision, she could later regret again. Thank you for this exceptional story and your regular posts.
Another great update. I’m rooting for Tina in this one. Not for her to get back with Bette but for her to finally find the strength to move on and make a life for herself. She’s dumping Henry which is a good start because she doesn’t love him and they have no future. Her job security is not guaranteed and if she’s distracted worrying about what Bette is doing she could very well find herself jobless. Additionally now that Bette has regular access to Angie, Tina’s assurance that she’s her co-parent, a great job and her new friend it seems her interest in spending extra time with her daughter is waning. I’m sure Tina might think to use that as a carrot but I found Bette wishing she didn’t have plans with her daughter so she could spend more time with Helena a bit disconcerting.
I’m really having a hard time reading Bette’s emotion changes whenever Helena calls or text. Tina kept her emotion very well to herself while informing Bette that she’s leaving Henry without implying that she still wants Bette. It takes a strong person to do such a brave thing. I can feel Bette’s wall standing tall blocking any symphatethic feeling towards Tina’s admission of her wrong choice. I’m also a Bette-ter, Tina-ter, Tibetter, but, like someone said, Bette needs to realize that she is the main contributor of the demise of their marriage and it ended up Tina making those wrong choices. I know it was the lack of scenes in S1 of how their relationship started to fall apart, but, during most of B&T scene, it appears like Tina is Bette’s “PA”, following Bette around, picking up her dryclean, cooking for her like trying to please her boss. The only missing was Tina should have a pen and a paper to write all Bette’s dictation notes. Bette being the breadwinner failed to show respect, love and time with Tina. Tina is also at fault because she let Bette treat her that way……… I think Tina’s feelings with a man rooted from the start of S1 when it seems that they are just roommates and their daily living became routine with lack of intimate time. In S1 although they live together, Bette abandoned Tina many time even before theyir break-up. Bette was so devoted to CAC than her wife……….Lack of Tina time, then she cheated………. that was the last blow that contributed to Tina ended with a man, and now planning to leave Henry admitting she made a wrong choice. I am actually fascinated with Tina’s personality, being the strong kind person, but Bette’s alphannes made Tina the weak person in their relationship………. In S2, she felt so many emotions, being betrayed, cheated on, unimportant and unloved when Bette continued to see Candace after Tina finds out of the cheating………. How do we expect Tina to feel?. Having devoted to Bette for 8 years, her whole world revolves with Bette, it’s all about Bette…..then Bette professing she love Tina during that break-up sex, but as soon as Tina left the house to go to Alice’s place, Bette went to the carpenter instead of being worried of Tina’s safety after thier fight…….. Tina’s homones during pregnancy and post partum were in a serious imbalance. ( I know a lot of women who developed mental illness because of this condition) In S3, Bette’s betrayal was still lurking around in her mind added by Bette’s not motivated to find a job plus the post preg hormones are just the perfect recipe for Tina’s behavior, ending with her feelings to a men. I think Bette really screwed up by her lack of support and understanding of what Tina been through. Instead of working hard to help Tina to overcome the feeling she is having with men, Bette abandoned her again. Reminds me, of S5 gazebo scene. Bette:”I did not left you.” TINA: Yes you did, but you came back.” It was true that Bette abandoned Tina many times. I know that Tina need to work hard as well on making her path right. I think it was a good start of telling Bette about Henry. She should start clean as she will be co-parenting with Bette. Maybe just keep Angela as her priority and try to be just civill with Bette. If deep in Bette’s walled heart there is still love for Tina, love will find the way. thank you , I love this post….:)
Really agree with many things Nsync said. And, I’ve always thought Tina to be the stronger person in the relationship. I hope that Tina can just concentrate on herself by herself and on Angie. I do like Bette (cos I’m a Tibetter) but really…giving up on Tina after just trying for three months and then seemingly moving on is sad for Tina. Also if Bette really wants Helena, I hope Tina will find away to protect herself and just concentrate on her daughter and just be civil with Bette too.
I AM MOST DEF..A TIBETTER BUT I AM REALLY ENJOYING THIS THING BETWEEN HELENA AND BETTE….ITS GREAT BECAUSE TINA WAS CUNT TOWARDS BETTE WITH THE WHOLE HENRY THING!
Tina has a week to get Bette back to her side. Hoping she can do it. Helena should not be interfering in Bette’s time with Tina..
In my book, pairing helena and bette is a bad idea. They can only be friends. I don’t understand why bette so easily forgives helena and eagerly wants to develop some sexual relationship with her? sorry, this is weird! I am a tibette fan and love tina. It breaks my heart to see tina suffer. Anyway, great writing! thank you!
I had to take a Xanax after reading the comments. :-). I am a Bette-er. I am a Tibetter because Bette is a Tibetter. I mean, the heart wants what the heart wants. Just as I have scratched my head about some of my friends’ relationships, and they have scratched their heads about some of mine, I always wished both members of the couple well and hoped the relationship was a success. I am pretty sure they did the same for me. That is the kind of Tibetter I am. Of course, that means I would have been a Jobetter if Bette had been a Jobetter. I am obviously missing something because I never thought that there was a lack of chemistry between Jodi and Bette, though I know that it wasn’t as intense as that which LuH delivered [coz she is the one who showed the abandon that made the scenes hot. I will always (grateful to JB for Bette, but there always seemed to be an intellectual detachment, a holding back, in all of her intimate scenes. Maybe that was how she was playing Bette. It makes sense that Bette might have always felt too insecure to ever fully let.] I feel a desperate need to clarify some items in the B&T time line. When S6 started, it had been 5 years since Bette’s affair. By the end of S3, Bette had been trying to win Tina’s love for two years. It is perfectly reasonable to give up after two years without any hope (except for post-sonogram sex,). Seriously–would any reader really wait for two years, especially after a year in which Tina happily made Bette miserable. Tina did not have to forgive Bette. Tina certainly had the right to admit that she made a mistake by reuniting. Tina had a right to be happy, too. Maybe Bette’s unhappiness was collateral damage.unfortunate but necessary. After two years,though, it is reasonable and understandable for Bette to seek some kindness and affection, even if it isn’t love. I think I would shrivel up and die without a kind word in so long. S1 B&T: Isn’t taking care of the house and Bette Tina’s contribution to their family? If not, how was Tina a partner in the relationship? Otherwise, she would be a leech. Anyway, as to the story. How manipulative w/r/t Bette and disrespectful w/r/t Henry for Tina to tell Bette that she was breaking up with Henry before she told the man himself. I adore every chapter of your story, every paragraph, every clause.. Thank you for respecting the depth of emotions involved and the hurt each suffers. I am willing to make the leap of faith re Belena. Regardless of where it all leads, I know that I will enjoy the trip..
am a tibetter who really has a soft spot for tina. somehow i always felt that tina had her reasons for doing the crazy things she did and that she didn’t do things just to hurt bette. i hope tina does win bette back slowly and at the same time doesn’t have to endure a belena, esp becos in one of the earlier chapters helena admitted to having used tina a little to get at bette. i know bette was very hurt by tina but some of the things she (bette) did were also very hurtful. e.g. filing for sole custody etc. Really enjoying the writing but at the same time on the edge because it reads like bette has really moved on and has no more place for tina.
Love your story. Don’t like the flirty flirty with Helena and I’m just wondering how Tina’s going to woo Bette. Yes I’m being positive here that you’re going to go with TiBette. Thank you again for this story.
Hey MTS, Another fabulous chapter as Bette and Tina finally spoken civilly to each other.Yes, there was awkwardness at the best way to greet and Tina’s bombshell.I think Bette handled it well. Asking Tina why she was telling her former partner was a great decision as in forced Tina to think about what she had said.Tina is beginning to realize what she throw away by leaving Bette and knows that she will have to do many things to improved her relationship with her ex-wife let alone rekindle their partnership.This was a good first step; admitting that Henry was her choice will asleep.Bette was honest and yet distant. She has moved on and has rebuilt the wall between her heart and Tina.Helena’s most welcome phone call was brilliantly, if inadvertantly, timed.It gave both the gals a chance to reassess the moment.The delight was visible on Bette’s face and audiable in her voice. Tina picked up on this immediately showing that their connection and understanding of each other is still there.I do hope that Tina manages to reignite her romance with Bette.Perhaps Helena will help Bette heal and prove she is a stunning woman worthy of unadulterated love.This might refocus Bette on who makes her complete.Whatever you do MTS, I know it will be a wonderful journey to follow.Many thanks from Your Loyal Fan.
