Chapter Thirty-Four
It was déjà vu. Bette was sitting at her desk in her office, typing an email when Jackie’s head appeared at nearly the same time it had the day before. The Dean smiled politely.
“Flowers today?” Bette asked facetiously.
Jackie’s grin grew wider. “No. However, Ms. Tina Kennard is here to see you and she comes bearing gifts.”
Bette blinked rapidly, her smile fading away. “Excuse me? Tina’s here?”
“Yes, she is. Are you ready for her or should I have her come back later.”
Her throat was tight and her emotions were jumbled. “No, I’ll see her. Please, send her in.”
Bette stood up, her stove pipe slacks falling effortlessly and flattering her form. She was leaning against the desk when Tina stepped inside.
“Good morning, Bette”, she said, her smile wide, her golden hair flowing as she moved.
“Good morning. This is a surprise.”
Tina closed the door behind her and answered, “I know. It was supposed to be.” Her soft, amber eyes caught the lilies she’d sent the day before. “They are beautiful. Exactly what I wanted.”
“You always had good taste.”
Tina met her gaze. “So did you.”
The blonde moved across the floor and delivered a small box of specialty chocolates she’d had made just for Bette. “This is for you”, she said.
Bette smiled wryly. “Another gift? For me?”
“For you, Babe.”
The Dean knew the logo of the box and when she saw it, her eyes lit up. “You went to my favorite chocolate shop!”
Tina nodded, absorbing her ex lover’s enthusiasm. Enthusiasm was definitely a good sign. “Yes, I did. And I had these made especially for you.”
Bette took the offered gift and replied, “Thank you. This is really sweet of you. But you don’t have to keep buying me things. I really – – -,”
Tina held up her hand. “I told you yesterday. Beautiful women deserve beautiful things. Special women deserve special things. And this was specially made for a special woman.”
Bette was overwhelmed. She didn’t feel at all like Dean Porter. She felt weak and unsure and so much like the Bette that Tina had rejected. “I—I don’t know what to say, Tee.”

Love came quickly to those two. Now then, some questions: is it real, or simply borne out gratitude for each others’ presence in their lives at a tough time when both are changing? And if it *is* real, what are they gonna do about it? Will Bette *finally* going to come clean to Tina? Or is she going to skirt the issue and hop on a plane and chase down her new love? I await your next post, MTS. Thanks for the chapter! :)
I feel like a yoyo with this story of yours. One minute I’m up high with Tina’s sweet gestures and courting and the next I’m low with Helena and Bette’s closeness. Looked like Bette made her choice and thank goodness Helena is setting her straight. No pun intended. Ü I’m worried though that Bette decides to stick with her current choice. This is too much thinking for me when it’s so early in the morning where I am. Thanks for the post!

Yes! Albeit a brief one finally the Belena kiss happened. I think Helena’s generosity in asking Bette to explore her feelings for Tina may work in her favor(even though that’s not something she planned). Clearly Bette is enjoying being pursued by Tina, but what woman doesn’t appreciate a nice gift now & then. Now that Bette has had a little taste (literally) of Helena I think the Brit will dominate her thoughts for the next two weeks. Can’t wait to read what happens next. Fingers still crossed that this will be a Belena tale w/ a happy ending :-)
i for one am loving this story and i think helena telling bette to spend time with tina and give her a chance is only to see if they can make it work. because if bette doesnt do this and her and helena end up together she might truly discover it was tina she loved all along and helena would be the one left holding the bag…..great story boo

Tina’s iced heart is already thawed for Bette. Maybe Bette’s heart will forever be frozen for Tina. This chapter just broked my heart. I think this is a Belena story. I will stop reading the next few chapters because I cannot take reading a belena chapter, I do have a chest pain now from this chapter. I need to find a Tibette fix story . Maybe, just maybe… I will take a peek on the ending….thanks :(
I still find it hard to believe that within such a short time Bette and Helena are all of a sudden best friends forever and in love already :S If Bette feels unsure of being with Tina she needs to tell her and not string her along. Bette needs to come clean with Tina about her feelings for Helena asap. Bette is playing a dangerous game and both Tina and Helena would end up getting hurt with this :(
Never been a Belena fan either, they just don’t seem realistic to me sorry. I wonder what if Tina finds out about Bette and Helena and pulls back pursuing Bette. Would Bette then notice Tina’s absence?

I am sure she won’t turn you down if you follow her to France. Tina, stop courting Helena’s girl. Hell, it might work. But, I’m hoping it doesn’t. Run Bette! Run to Helena! =) SIDE NOT: Whether my girls get together or not, I’m still reading the story. I love Bette and Tina; and I love Bette and Helena. The dynamics of both relationships are SO different. It’s just that in this story, Tina seems to get more on my nerves than anything else. Looks like you might be making her likable after all. Are you trying to make me eat my words about liking her? Okay, now I am going back and reading this chapter again! Hehehehe! Keep em coming MTS! PPVS!
All I can say to this is Honesty is the best policy and these women need to employ it. So far Tina is the only one being honest and upfront about her feelings and her intentions. Although Helena’s gesture might seem self-less it was also dishonest. What she needed to tell Bette was how she herself felt about them pursuing anything beyond friendship. If she doesn’t see Bette in that way then say so, if she does then say that. I could understand if she told Bette “I love you and I want to be with you, but you really need to resolve your feelings for Tina before we can go any further. Why don’t you take the next two weeks while I’m away to work thing out.” or “I really love you as a friend but I don’t see anything more than that between us.” I would have respect for that type of response. Who is she to presume to know Bette’s heart? Bette is the only one that knows what is best for Bette and if she can’t figure it out for herself then she needs to step back from both of these women until she can. I would hate for her to string Tina along and maybe even respond to her advances just to drop her again in two weeks when Helena gets back… Bette is also being very dishonest with Tina and selfish with Helena. What happens to the friendship if Helena doesn’t want to become lovers? and better yet will she ever forge a friendship with Tina if they do? Will she pout and drop her the friend if she doesn’t want her as a lover? Will she run to Tina when she gets rejected? Will she at the very least be honest with Tina; I really hate reading Bette’s thoughts saying one thing when her words say something else. If Tina coming to her office makes her stop smiling and want to run the Helena then don’t act as if she appreciates Tina’s thoughtfulness to her face and on the phone only to cringe and be repulsed by it in private or when she confides to Helena. I could care less who she ends up with at this point but it’s something in her character that is really making me dislike her right now. Is this how she’s planning to co-parent? She’ll be two-faced in the relationship with Angie’s other mother saying one thing and thinking something else? Great moral lesson to teach your child. Thanks for the story and I’ll try to keep the faith with every chapter that in the end we’ll get Bette back.
Bette is right, it’s up to her to decide with whom she wants to have a future and ending with someone can’t be out of a favor she owns her best friend. Now, that she acted on her feelings towards Helena, Bette can only move forward and needs to come clean with Tina about whatever she’s thinking or feeling, if not out of respect for the latter, at least for the sake of Angie and an easy co-parenting.
i’ve been a silent reader and was hoping that this would end up being tibette. but not likely at least not anytime soon. sigh. i love your story, but even so, i can never see helena and bette together. and if this was a belena. pls pls pls bette, have a heart and tell Tina. instead of making her think she has a chance when clearly she doesnt. i hate to see all the effort tina is putting will simply mean nothing in the end.. bette owes it to tina to say something. i’ll cont reading but if it gets to heavy.. i think my bnt heart wont make it.
Loved the update! I feel the pain of the non-BeLena folks because I have never been a TiBette fan! Challenge is Bette isn’t the same person Tina left and Tina’s changed too…could they have a new and improved version of love, sure… or has Bette grown in such a way that Ti-Love doesn’t live here anymore… Really loved the act of selflessness by H, if that’s not a high level of committed caring, what is… Can’t wait to see where you take us… Yet again, WELL DONE!!!

I agree Jackie. This may ultimately be the bigger lesson in life for Helena than just getting her money cut off. They are both vulnerable and Bette is actually throwing herself at this point onto Helena. I mean Helena is only human right? Bette is so ripe for the picking and Helena gets the right to first choice in her life once again. But has she really earned it yet? Don’t forget Helena has bared witness to Tibette for sometime now and is quite intimately aware of their dramatic dynamics. So I give cudos to H for taking a step back, actually encouraging Bette to stop being emotionally co-dependent on her for the time being and see what her heart really reveals. I still think Bette needs serious Shrink time before she jumps anyones bones. Maybe the shrink can explain a little to her about TRANSFERENCE!!!! :D
oh poor Helena, she’s so sweet *sometimes when U really love someone U have to let her go* and it’s exactly what she’s doing here, she truly believe that Bette is still in love with Tina and doesn’t act on her feeling because of her and so she opt for leaving. I agree on the fact that now it’s really time for Bette tio come clean to Tina it’s not fair to let her hope that they would be back at some point. As for Helena, Bette could use these 2 weeks for sort out her feelings and get an answer about Kit’s question. But everyone here needs to be honest with each other and not that ambigous. I can’t wait to read your next update coz I still don’t know if in the end it would a belena or tibette happy ending. Though my heart would like for a belena happy end with Tina a good friendship.
I totally love Tina courting Bette. It’s pretty fierce. But what the hell else does she have to do? I really love Bette and Tina have always been my favorite characters on the show. But this Bette is for the birds. She’s really annoying and pissing me off. I never thought I’d say this but…this Bette no longer deserves Tina. Just sayin’…

Hello there,I was a silent reader, but i must comment now.I’m a real Tibette fan, but i have the feeling this is gonna a Belena story and i hate that thought.Bette has to go to a good shrink and come to terms with herself before jumping to a relationship with Tina or Helena. I think she needs to love herself and that maybe her feelings for the dragon isn’t really and only a way out for her true feelings for Tina. Yes, Tina messed up for big time, but she don’t deserve this.Bette, you need to work at youself, before you do anything.Nsync, i’m sorry to read that you’ll not reading till maybe the last chapter, it was my idea also, but i hop that it will end like i wish and pray for, A happy Tibette ending.
Hi MTS, Another week’s worth of the most tender and termendous writing.I am so happy that Tina is courting Bette old school while being open and honest about her intentions and her feelings. The shame is that Bette isn’t at that place yet.Her memories of Tina and their relationship is still tied up with the hurt and heartache of their break-up. As a TiBetter I do want them together forever but can understand is in this adventure it isn’t meant to be. Helena has suddenly grown up into a rather stunning and kind human being. This is so attractive to Bette especially as she still hasn’t come to terms with her past. The dangers are twofold; one – Bette is so afraid to risk her heart again with Tina, she is tranferring these emotions onto her nearest and dearest companion, Helena. Two – Helena has matured however is still an alpha woman and this while appealing to Bette right now might cause much consternation as these two butt heads for control.Ever hopeful of a sweet romance, it is testament to you great skill and dextrity as an author that so many of us readers comments.This is your greatest talent.Thank you so much for staying true to your work.Your Loyal Fan.
Good Golly! Bette needs to tell Tina her feelings for Helena, she at least deserves that much.
Helena pushing Bette towards Tina would be admirable if she truly felt that Tina was a better choice for Bette than she herself but this is similar to when Tina pushed Bette towards Jodi. Tina also thought she was doing what would make Bette happy only to later find that Bette wasn’t happy with Jodi which led to their affair. Maybe that is one way to satisfy both TiBette and BeLena. Have Bette get back with Tina and six months later realize her feelings for Helena haven’t gone away so they have an affair or take the route of S2 where Tina and Helena had an open relationship which allowed for Bette and Tina to sleep together. That might be an option for them to explore when Helena gets back. Looking forward to the next two weeks in Bette Porter’s life. Thanks for keeping us intrigued.
Has Tina hurt Bette so much that Bette can’t find a way to be intimate w/Tina once again? Helena hasn’t hurt her in that way so she is willing to take a chance w/Helena? They are both stunningly beautiful and living in close proximity has stirred their desire for each other. Bette knows if she goes back to Tina she has to divorce herself from Helena in any sexual way. PPS.
Well, I guess hoping for no one to get hurt went right out the window. Bette should be honest with Tina now that she’s finally being honest with herself. Give her the respect of knowing where she stands so that she can move on. I can’t help but think this wouldn’t be accepted if Tina were to get close to one of Bette’s exes in this manner. She’d be crucified & have to wear the scarlet letter A she’d be such a pariah. But because it’s Bette, & she & Helena are ohhhh so adorable to some, it’s accepted despite the ramifications and the fact that it’s indecent. I just don’t get it. I’m flabbergasted. When I read they kissed, my stomach turned. You just don’t go there with an ex’s ex. How someone can even consider such a thing is beyond me. There’s a thing called tact & it’s sorely missing here. You have to think about everyone involved & their feelings, not just yourself. And I’ll echo a few others and put my request in to leave Tina with some dignity, please. Her gifts & loving gestures are obviously not being accepted in the spirit they were intended. There’s no point in continuing to try when you’re constantly rebuffed. Tina should maybe wait a while & court someone who can accept those gifts with an open heart. I’m hanging on only by a thread, solely due to the Belena interaction. I just can’t wrap my head around it. It’s too much. Thanks for the story.
