    The Tower Of Learning

    Bette: Oh wow, hello Phyllis.

    Bette smiled as she spoke.

Phyllis: You come back to town for how long and you don’t even call me!

    Bette laughed.

Bette: I’m sorry, I have had a lot on my plate.

Phyllis: Fine, I’ll forgive you, what are you doing today?

    Bette: Job hunting basically.

Phyllis: Really… You could have your job back here.

Bette didn’t say anything after that. She was surprised.

    Bette: Really?

Phyllis: Didn’t I tell you if you ever changed your mind about the offer I would take you in a heart beat?

    Bette: You were serious?

Phyllis: I am always serious. Do you want the job?

    Bette: God yes.

    Bette laughed.

Phyllis: That’s what I thought. Come by the school today Dean Porter and I will give you a tour.

Bette: Thank you Phyllis, you really are one in a million.

    Phyllis: I know that.

Then Phyllis hung up. Bette just sat there staring at the phone then looking at Tina who had an eyebrow raised in curiosity.

Bette: You are now looking at the new Head of the Arts department at UCLA, Miss. Dean Porter.

Tina screamed and tackled Bette as both accidentally rolled off the bed and onto the floor still laughing. Tina and Bette laid there for a while then decided they were hungry. They went to the kitchen wrapped in sheets and Tina looked in the fridge.

Tina: Well what do you want?

Bette: I told ya, I don’t know so you choose.

Tina: But I said I didn’t know before you.

Tina absentmindedly looked in the freezer.

    Tina: How about Eggo’s?

    Tina laughed.

    Bette: That’ll work.

    Tina turned to Bette.

    Tina: Are you serious?

Bette: I lived a year eating only Eggo’s when I was in New York. It was the only thing I knew how to cook without causing a crisis in my apartment.

Tina: Are you saying you can cook now?

Bette: Yeah. I’m not as bad as people think either.

Tina: You will have to prove that to me.
