    This is My Family..chapter 81

    Cut to 47 Years Later:

The home Bette stayed at was  definetly the most comfortable. The last three had the pervading smell of old people that Bette, even though being an old person herself, had never gotten used to. Instead this home seemed to be obssesed about cleaning. Everything was about cleaning. when Bette dripped her apple juice on her sweater or the table…some nurse would come and wipe it almost immediantly. This did not bode well with a few of the patients, only a few though mind you…Bette remembered one time when the eagerness of an intern annoyed an old woman so much she bit him. Bette had not seen her since…she suspected ***** activity down in the dungeons. Paranoia seemed to have been the most concerning of Bette’s health problems. Not being in control of shitting and pissing was also a problem..along with insomnia. but paranoia seemd to plague her the most…things were lurking in her closet..not to mention the hallways. However balanced with this were moments of clarity…and laong with that the rememberance of memories. You see Bette was ninety-two…and one hour away from natural death. Her body had detoriated into a sack of skin and bones, her organs were packing in and becoming mush. Her brain had shrunk a bit too. Bette’s thoughts were often a mesh of automatic functions and demands. However when those moments of clarity came….her entire being felt so beautiful because she had felt these things…she had lived. And for a few minutes and even a few hours she was a young woman again.

Things That Bette Remembered In Those Moments Of Clarity:

She remembered her grandmother’s hands, how they caressed her hair as she brushed with that comb. 100 hundred times everynight.

She remembered how sticky ***** could be, how Tina would always keep tissues on the sidetable.

She remembered the feel of her teeth sinking into her mother’s cookies. She remembered the pain of that abondonment.

She remembered how it was so important to her to please Melvin, her father.

She remembered being called a ‘mulatto’ in high school.

She remembered the pain of knowing she was ***** and sleeping with men anyway.

She remembered comparing and admiring the bodies of her classmates in the locker room.

    1. ditto dragon63 (except I had to stop reading around the time Angie got pregnant…I just could not envision Bette acting that way any longer). Regardless, you are a great writer!

Good luck in school and concentrate on your studies! We’ll still be here when you are on your breaks.

    2. Cass,

A bit of an abrupt end but I understanding why.

This story was just one version of life and death.

It covered the good, the bad and the ugly moments that we all go through.

I think you have a fantastic imagination and can get to the real heart of the moment.

I don’t like the use of txt language (cuz thru, etc.) or …. being used inappropriately. Your grammer needs some structure as “i” should be always be a capital “I” and abbreviations such as cant and wont should use apostrophes as in can’t and won’t.

However this all pales into insignificance given the intensity of your story telling.

I hope that write again soon as I will avidly follow it.

      Thank you,

      Your Loyal Fan.

    3. Sorry that this story has ended although it was very difficult to read at times it was exceptional. What made this good for me were the bits that were not said, stuff characters needed to happen didn’t, things that just didn’t work. Life is not easy nice smooth fair or dependable. You managed to protray the disjointedness completely. Not a happy story but nontheless well crafted and told. I think I’m sad that you “get” this at such a young age. Good luck for the future.

    4. Cass, I could tell this story was told from the heart and I can’t tell you how many timed it has moved me. Thoroughly original it dared to go where others would never tread and for that I have to say thank you. You have a wonderful talent that you should continue to pursue. Best of luck with school.

    5. I just finished this story…it took me quite awhile to read it cause it’s so emotional. I had to read it little by little. I am amazed at the writing skills you displayed on this story. I hate that Tina died but death is a part of all our lives. I hope you continue to write. Thanks for this story.

    6. i finally read this story all the way thru..i must say i cried like a baby when tina died. i cant really say much more than it was a very sad but touching story..thank you for sharing it

    7. I have to admit I started to read this from the beginning but couldn’t continue after TIna got sick – way too painful. I checked in a couple of times as you went on but again, issues I couldn’t deal with even in the realm of fiction. Your words create an amazing truth and reality that I couldn’t help but sthink – what if that was me?…so I had to hide from your words. I read this post because I wanted to know how it all ended and wow! What an amazing story you have told. I look forward to your next work and hope to be able to follow it through. Like techgal says – ‘No one goes where you go,’ Best wishes with school!
