The officer smiled, she had dark hair and hazel eyes, “Not your night, is it?” asked the officer.  Her body language changed, knowing now that Tina wasn’t a threat, that it was more than likely a recent breakup and the woman was just dealing with it.

            “You have no idea,” muttered Tina.  “I’m sorry that someone called you here for nothing.”

            “That’s ok, I was off duty, or heading off duty, when I took the call, last call of the night in fact,” smiled the dark haired woman.  The woman kicked off her shoes, “You want to dive in, or shall I?”

            “Gallant,” grinned Tina, thinking that she really didn’t want to go diving into that pool.  “No, really, I can get them.”

            “S’all right, I’ll get them,” said the officer, already taking her shirt off, a stark white wife beater was all she was wearing under the dark blue uniform. She looked into the pool and dove in before swimming to the bottom and coming up with the keys in her fingertips.  “I’ve never ended a shift better.” 

            Tina laughed, taking the keys and then offering a hand to Officer Lopez, “Thank you so much, I think the night is getting better.”

            The woman, whose skin seemed to radiate an unnatural glow, wiped the water from her eyes, “That’s ok, we’re here to protect and to serve, a dip in a pool is a great way to serve.”

            “Taking your job literally,” said Tina.  “Let me get you a towel at least?”

            “No, I’ll be fine, ma’am,” said the woman.

            “Tina, my name is Tina,” said Tina, offering her hand again. 

            “Nice to meet you, I’m Officer Sarah Lopez.  Now, Miss Kennard, how about we walk you to your car?” offered Sarah.

            Tina put the keys back in her pocket, not wanting them to get loose again, “Won’t your partner ask why you are wet?”

            “I dropped him off before, it was my turn to park the car, as we like to say, his wife has a newborn, I’m cutting him some slack,” said Sarah with a sympathetic shrug.  “So the only one who’ll know I’m wet is you.”
