Til The Casket Drops. Chapter Two.

       Til The Casket Drops.
    Chapter Two.
"It’s unbelievable that someone would do something like this at a time like this." Bette ranted on as soon as she changed out of her dress and slipped into something more comfortable.

Back at the church, they all agreed to ignore the message. Jennifer was dead and it was time to mourn her, not worry over a harmless prank.

"Maybe the message shouldn’t be ignored." Tine spoke softly. She still couldn’t wrap her mind over this morning events. ‘Aren’t you a little unsettled?"

"No, I’m not." Yes she was.

With a sigh, Bette wrapped her arm around her partner. It’s been less than an hour and so many thoughts ran through her mind. Bette wanted to ignore the message but something inside her told her differently.

As soon as the family came home, Angelica ran to play with her toys while Tina made tea and Bette changed. In the comfort in her own bathroom, Bette broke down. Now they stood in front of Angelica’s doorway, their eyes never leaving the young child playing with her dolls.

Alice was glad that Tasha was gone when she arrived back to her house but part of her needed comfort. The spunky blonde wouldn’t stop shaking and it didn’t help matters that she continuously stared at the ‘J’ message.

"Pull yourself together." Alice scowled herself.

Taking a deep breath, Alice removed the message from her screen and dialed Jamie’s number.

"Jamie, hey." Alice tried to sound cheerful but her new found friend sensed something was off.

    "Alice? Are you okay?"

    Nothing but silence.

    "Wasn’t today Jennifer’s funeral?" Whimper.

    "I’ll be right over."

With that, Alice smiled softly. "Thank you." She ended the call and stood up from the couch. Running her hand through her hair, she entered the kitchen and made a snack for her and her friend.

Shane wished Jenny was part of this, wished it was just some attention seeking plan and would enter the house laughing at any moment. Her eyes never left the front door.

Shane dragged a puff from her third cigarette within 20 minutes. Her stress level was high and the nicotine running through her body helped relax her.

She wasn’t too worried about the message, she’s gotten much worse from the women she’d sleep with and never call again. In fact, had the message not come in during a rough time, maybe Shane would be able to laugh at the anonymous attempt to spook her.

But at this moment, the only thing that spooked her was cleaning out Jenny’s room.

Kit and Helena headed home together. "This is un-fucking believable."

"Yeah, seems like even in death Jenny is able to rattle us."

The pair arrived at Hit, cleaning up and catching up on paperwork before opening up again for tomorrow tonight. They all needed one night to themselves and Helena would make sure that that the rest of her friends would come.

"You okay over here? I’ll be working in the back." Helena nodded at Kit.

"I’m good. If ‘J’ walks in, I’ll kick ass." They both laughed as Kit walked towards the back to her office.

    —————-

Angelica and Tina were playing in the pool as Bette sat cross leg in one of the lawn chairs with her laptop in hand. Her attention went from the fun in the pool to the documents in her lap.

Bette was enjoying the view of her partner and daughter laughing and playing around. She loved days like this, sort of.

A ding bought her out of her daze and Bette looked down at the screen. Seemed like someone punched her in the gut with the way she was breathing.

‘Have you told her yet? Tic Tock, what are you waiting for?‘ – J.

Attached to the message was a video clip. Her heart dropped. She already knew what it was. Opening up the clip and pressing the play button, tears formed in her ears.

    "Oh god, no." She whimpered.

Tina looked over at Bette, wanting her to join her in the pool when she noticed the look of despair on her face. Keeping an eyes on Angelica, stepped out the pool.

    "Bette?"

    Tina’s voice went unnoticed.

    "Bette?"

It wasn’t until Tina was close and her voice was louder did Bette finally come down to reality. Quickly, she slammed her laptop and forced a smile.

"I’m fine. Been a long day, is all."

Just like that, Bette walked inside while Tina walked defeated back to her daughter.

    —————-

Alice was finally enjoying herself for the first time in a long time. Her legs rested over Jamie’s and their empty plates were scattered somewhere on the floor.

"I really am sorry to hear…" Alice stopped her friend from finishing her sentence.

"It’s okay, I know. But let’s not talk about it today, okay?" She didn’t want to ruin the rest of the day, she didn’t want to think about the message. All Alice wanted was a good time.

While Jamie talked about the latest movie she had seen, Alice couldn’t help but be captivated by the beauty in front of her. Her eyes drank her in and they landed on her lips. If only she could taste them, feel them against her own.

She flashed a smile at Jamie as she got ‘comfortable’ when really she was moving closer to her friend.

‘First Clea and now Jamie. Are you on a mission to break Tasha’s heart?‘ – J.

    —————-

Kit entered her office and as soon as she did, she noticed the package on her desk. With a smile, she took her seat on her chair and opened up the package.

‘It’s been a year right? Congrats. Drink up.’ – J.

    "What the hell?"

Kit shot up like her chair was on fire. She had a hard time swallowing when she pulled out a whiskey and tequila bottle out of the package.

Then it dawned on her. Someone broke in. Someone had managed to get through all the security codes and locks. Someone was here.

Kit screamed when she felt a chill throughout her body.
