The Present


Bette’s place

Tina:”Well you know that woman Louise I was telling you about, well …”
Bette: interupted “Yeah, so she’s your partner.”
Tina giggled a little and smiled back at Bette and shook her head no.
Bette looked a little confused “so why..”
Tina: cut in “If you let me finish.”
Bette:”Sorry, go ahead I won’t butt in again”
Tina: “This is really quiet a short and simple story. Anyway Louise we never had a relationship or anything like that, just a really close sisterly bond. Over the years my love life has been a disaster my longest relationship was 6 months, I even resorted back to dating a few guys.”
Bette raised her eyebrows and gave a surprised look.
Tina:”Yeah those lasted like two dates tops.” they laughed. “So almost 3 years ago I felt a yearning for a child and I heard my clock slowing down. So I enlisted Louise’s help to find me some sperm. She had the perfect person in mind, her brother Mark and when we asked him he didn’t have a problem. I thought it was great because I already felt a part of their family and this would just confirm it. So we got everything legal so that he gave his parental right’s up, then we went to the doctor’s to get inseminated. I got pregnant the second try, it was such a buzz. Louise was as excited as I was, she kept saying I’m going to be an aunty.”
Bette:”So has she been helping you raise Louise?”
Tears started to run down Tina’s face “No Louise died in a car accident a month before I gave birth.”
Bette took Tina in her arms “I’m sorry T.”
They sat there in each others arms for a few minutes, the first time in 7 years but it was as familar as if it were yesterday.
Tina:”There’s something else I want to…”
They were interupted by Alice coming through the gate yelling “Can I get some help here.” She had Louise in one arm, a bag on her shoulder and 5 shopping bags in her other hand.
Bette ran over and took Louise from her and gave her a kiss on the forehead as Louise rapped her arms around Bette’s neck for a hug. Bette’s heart warmed as she felt an enourmous wave of love gush through her for the child.

Shane, Dana, and Kit all arrived for the quiet BBQ. They all sat out by the pool having a good time. Tina over heard Bette’s conversation with Shane.
Bette:”Shane I broke up with Rachel last night.”
Shane:”Wow’
Bette: “I had to as soon as I saw her yesterday I knew I had to have her back in my life, you know I never stopped loving her. I didn’t think it would be possible that I’d love her any more than I already did and damn motherhood has been very good to her she looks as ***** as she did when I meet her.”
Shane:”Yeah you got that right. So what are you going to do”
Bette:”I don’t know Shane do you think she would want me back after so long”
Shane:”I don’t know Bette I think there’s a good chance I’ve seen how she looks at you when you’re not watching, there’s still love in those eyes Bette.
Tina felt herself blushing from what she was hearing.
Bette:”Really.”
Shane nodded and gave Bette a small hug.

Bette couldn’t stop doting on Louise, feeding her, playing with her in the pool, anything Louise needed or wanted Bette was there. Everyone else laughed and said “She was getting clucky.” But Tina knew how much Bette always wanted to be a mother and it warmed her heart to see how good she was with Louise.
Bette put Louise in her bed for a nap and layed down next to her watching her sleep and before she knew it she had dozed off too. Not long after Tina came to check on them and watched them as they were snuggled up to each other. She layed down on her side next to Louise and gently stroked Bette’s arm until she woke.
Bette:”Hey”
Tina:”Hey”
Bette:”T I have to as..” Tina stopped her mouth by placing her finger on her lips.
Tina:”I have a question for you first ok?”
Bette nodded.
Tina:”Bette do you want to be a mother?”
Bette kept nodding
Tina:”Would you like to be Louise’s mother?”
Bette smiled and her eyes welled with tears “Nothing would make me happier T”
Tina leaned over and placed a soft kiss on Bette’s lips “Baby I love you, I have missed you so much.”
Bette:”You wouldn’t believe how much I’ve missed you T, I love you so much.”
Bette reached into the drawer in the nightstand and grabbed something out.
Bette:”T do you remember this” she held Tina’s ring in her hand ” and do you remember what you said, well I understood along time ago I’ve just been waiting to return it where it belongs” and she placed it back on Tina’s finger. She gave another soft kiss to Tina and then they both layed holding hands looking into each other’s eyes until they both fell asleep.

A half hour later the rest of the gang had gathered at their door they all had tears in their eyes as they adoringly watched the happy family snuggle in bed. “About ***** time” Alice whispered as they all nodded in agreement.

I planned on making it longer but I had to rush to finish it as I’m going away in a few days and I didn’t want to leave you all hanging for 3 weeks. This was my very first atempt writing fanfic I didn’t even like writing at school, so thanks for all the feedback it kept me going. At times I didn’t know where I was going with this story but I’m pretty pleased with the result. I’d also like to thank all of the other writers you are awesome!
