    True Desire

"Bette, we need to talk this out," Tina pleaded.

"There’s nothing to talk about," Bette said meekly at she rested her forehead on the butterfly covered steering wheel.

"That’s a lie Bette," Tina began. "What I feel for you is so strong and it scares me. I was taught all my life that this wrong and I don’t have how to combat that…"

"Then don’t. I’ll leave you alone," Bette interjected.

"Now stop that, Bette! Just stop. Look at me," Tina waited for Bette’s attention, but did not receive it. "Bette, look. at. me."

    Bette turned her head hesitantly.

"Bette, please don’t cry." Tina laid one hand on the side of Bette’s face and brushed away the falling tear with her thumb. Bette’s eyes closed involuntarily at the tender touch of Tina’s soft hand.

Tina’s heart was pounding. Even though she tried to deny it, she loved Bette in a way that was not acceptable to her family and most of her friends. She wanted nothing more than to kiss her, to hold her, to explore her. She was tired of being afraid. She and Bette have danced around each other for the past year…ever since Bette moved to Phoenix.  Tina molded her hand around Bette’s jaw and without further hesitation she leaned towards Bette and pressed her lips against hers.

The sound of the rain faded into the background as the sound of two pounding hearts filled the tiny car. Tina’s core trembled as she kept still on Bette’s lips. She couldn’t believe what she was doing but at that moment she didn’t exactly care.  She felt her body become ablaze…her mind and her heart raced uncontrollably. She battled the ideas of right and wrong and in this moment…this perfect, euphoric moment she couldn’t believe any of this was wrong. It was beautiful.

Bette’s body began to tremble at the unexpected touch. She had dreamt of kissing Tina for a year but none of her fantasies could ever compare to what she felt at this moment. The feeling of Tina’s lips on hers, their bodies just inches away from each other….Bette could barely contain her composure as she felt Tina’s body ignite. The heat flowed into her own core and flowed throughout her trembling body. She could feel Tina’s anxiety through the kiss. She placed her hand on Tina’s which was still cupping her jaw.

Tina smiled as she inched away from Bette’s mouth and after eternal moments, she opened her eyes to gaze at the dark brunette. She had seen Bette in a whole new way these past few months. The dark curls of Bette’s hair…the naturally tanned skin…it all entranced her.  Tina’s breathing quickened as she saw Bette slowly open her eyes.

The silence was deafening for neither spoke but their locked eyes screamed volumes.  Neither spoke for minutes, yet the minutes felt like eternity. Neither knew where to go from here. Neither knew exactly what the other way thinking…feeling…wanting. The kiss had barely been there…just closed lips touching. Both were yearning. Both were nervous. Both were terrified.

With a slow, drawn out exhale Tina breathed "like I said…we need to talk." She kept her eyes locked on Bette’s, but moved her hand down to her lips and felt Bette’s smooth, trembling lips with her thumb. Bette began tearing up again and one single tear fell onto Tina’s immobile hand which made both girls laugh hesitantly.

"Look at me! I’m like a freaking water park!" Bette chuckled.

"Yea…I mean any more of those tears and we’re going to need to build a boat," Tina added. She smiled at Bette who was now wiping her eyes carefully. Neither could stop smiling now.  "Bette."
