Chapter 1

Carmen was on her bed crying into her pillow because everyone had been criticizing her about her weight and her dorky look. Everybody is driving Carmen crazy even her childhood friend Damien that Carmen thought he would understand her. Damien Carmen thought, he is the one who makes Carmen cry the most, making her feel worse about her self.

Carmen: (I m just 17 for Christ sake what up will all this stuff about looking good and slim not like I have a boy friend or something).

Carmen continues crying with all kind of thoughts running through her mind.

After about an hour, Carmen sat up straight on her bed and wipe her puffy red eyes on her forearm as she sniff and sat Indian style and grab her laptop. Carmen opens her laptop and put her headphone on and lost her self into the music that is her only comfort.

Knock, Knock

Carmen: “Go away”( She said annoyed)

Maria: “Carmen is me”.

Maria the oldest sister of Carmen, who is the only one that won’t criticize her and sometime stand up for her.

Carmen: “Come in then” ( Carmen said weakly)

Maria: “Oh hey Carmen come here”

Maria went over the bed and pull Carmen in for a gentle hug. Tears began to resurface as Carmen holds on tight to her oldest sister.

Maria: “ Shhh shhhh….. I know”

Maria said as she rubs Carmen back trying to comfort her younger sister.

, “Why don’t people just see past the outside and see the real me on the inside”, Carmen said as it sound muffle against her sister shirt.

“Some people do and some people don’t, you just have to find the right person who just love you as you are and guess what I have something for you”, Maria said.

Maria hand Carmen a brochure. Carmen slowly let go of her sister and eyed the brochure as Maria began to speak.

Maria: “I know people have been constant criticizing you and you have tried everything but the only thing you haven’t tried is by going to the gym and get a real workout. Just give it a tried for one month and if you don’t like it you could quit plus its summer and I know you don’t want to stay at home and hangout with the rest of them. So think about it and tell me tomorrow”.

Maria pats Carmen legs and get up to leave the room. Carmen sighs and laid on her bed again as she open the brochure and read it content.

Carmen: “Sound interesting”. (Maybe I will give it a try) Carmen thought.

Carmen yawn and put the brochure on the night stand as she snuggle between the sheet and went to sleep thinking that tomorrow her life will change.
