    Vignettes: Chapter 19

Alice stumbled down the hallway with an empty glass clutched in her hand. She needed something to drink and the bottled water in the fridge called her name. She didnt turn any lights on so that she could stay in her groggy state and fall immediately back to sleep when she crawled back into bed. Just before she reached the kitchen, she heard voices in the living room. Falling into her sleuthing ways, she slowly snuck her head around the corner, suddenly now more alert and awake. She saw Bette and Shane drinking tea and chatting. Alice glanced at the clock and saw that it was one in the morning. Instead of getting water, she decided to casually overhear what they were talking about, just for a minute.

So you guys went to the beach together, right? Shane asked. Then what? What happened at the beach? Did you hang out all week? Wasnt it weird? I mean given the history and all between you two. If I didnt know you so well, Id think you were telling me a tall tale or something.

Alice strained her ears, dying to figure out what they were talking about. She could make out certain phrases and words, but it wasnt all coming together yet.

Shane, sometimes I still think that week was a dream. The best part of the week was neither one of us had any expectations… well, for most of the time anyway. We spent a lot of time together during the week. Bette replied.

A light went off in Alices head as she suddenly realized what they were talking about. She chuckled as she remembered hearing the story from Tina and Bette, both at different times, though. The way they both recalled the story brought a smile to her face. Bette and Tina both had a great week together and they had openly admitted at least that much to her when they returned to their own lives and Alice actually thought they might try another go at a relationship. Sighing, she shook her head and tried to listen to some more. Hearing a noise behind her, she turned around and saw Tina looking at her, half asleep and confused.
