Vignettes: Chapter 5
Bette sat on the front steps of Alices porch in limbo. She hadnt technically left, yet she closed the door on her friends. When Bette walked out the door, Shane was angered and stormed out after her. Seeing Bette sitting on the stairs, Shanes anger suddenly melted.
Bette… you all right? Shane asked, sitting near her, but giving Bette her space.
Bette sighed, looking up at the stars. Shane, why are you doing this?
Shane took a picture out of her pocket and handed it to Bette. Smiling, Bette remembered the night this picture was taken. It was two years after Bette and Tina had been married and they had margarita night almost every week with their friends in the summer. This night they were sitting on the patio, empty blender surrounded by frozen margaritas, sweating on the table and five women, lounging and laughing had their heads thrown back towards the stars. Kit took the picture just as she was leaving and nobody even knew it was taken.
This is why.

Tina poured the last of the margarita from the blender into Bettes glass. She raised an eyebrow. T, are you trying to get me drunk?
Alice laughed across the table. She doesnt need to, youre already there.
Drink up. Shane said as she came back onto the patio with a bottle of tequila in her hand. She placed a shot glass in front of each woman, filled to the brim.
No way, Im done. Dana pushed her glass away.
Shane shook her head. Were all in this together.
Tina groaned while Alice slapped Bette on the back. Think youre up for the challenge, Porter? Or are you too old for this?
Bette glared at Alice and accepted the challenge. She never was one to be able to lose at any sort of competition. Taking the glass, she threw her head back and let the alcohol tear down her throat. She smirked at Alice.
I think were taking margarita night a little too far tonight. Tina grinned.
Fun, isnt it? Shane smiled.
They all shook their heads while Tina threw back a second shot.
