    Vignettes: Chapter 61

“They have no idea you’re doing this?”

    “None at all.”

“This is great!”  Zoe  picked up some old pictures and flipped through them.  “Are you going to have it done in time?”

“Plenty of time.”  Dakota said.  “Besides, it’s mostly done anyway since I did it as a class project a few months ago.”

“Well they’ll love it.”  Zoe stood.  “Bathroom.”  She explained as she stepped out of the room.

Dakota packed everything back up in a tupperware and put it under her bed.  Zoe was in town for a very short weekend because she needed some clothes she left behind.  Dakota didn’t understand why her sister didn’t just go buy new clothes, but for being sisters, they were very much unalike.

Zoe slowly walked back into the room with a worried look on her face.

“Everything go ok in there?”  Dakota joked.

“I should ask you if everything is ok.”  Zoe replied solemnly staring at her sister.

    “What do you mean?”

“If you’re going to have guests, you should at least empty your trash before they arrive if you’re trying to hide something.”  Zoe took a pregnancy test box from behind her back to show Dakota.

Her face went from blank to shocked.  She was speechless.

“What is this about Kody?  Are you pregnant?”

    “I don’t know.”

“You don’t know?  How do you not know?  What did the test say?”

“The test said yes but I went to the doctor today.  She said she’d give me a call when the test results are in.”  Dakota sounded cool and calm despite the knots twisting inside of her.  She never meant for Zoe to see that box and now she was silently reprimanding herself for such a careless mistake.

“When did the doctor say she’d call you?”

Dakota shrugged.  “I really don’t want to talk about this anymore.”

“Have you told mom?  Mama?  Aunt Alice?  Anyone?”  Zoe was working herself up with worry.

“No.  Why would I say something unless I knew for sure?  Besides, I might not even keep the baby if I am.”

“You should tell Mama.  Talk to her, you’ve always been able to talk to her.”

    1. wonderful chapter – like the sisters connecting and that Tina can be there for Dakota differently then Bette. You are amazing taking us so far into the future. Thanks

    2. My daughter is 17 months old and I am not letting her date until she is 40….its amazing how you think of these important, life altering moments to capture in your story Fareast. I’m surprised that Tina was so calm but I guess you have to be there for your kids, no matter what.

    3. can this sunday get any better. jks, flair, tbsaver, ffc and now you. im in heaven. the sisters bonding. having been in that situation with my daughter, very difficult. but you captured it well. i so love this story. being mature really helps when there is difficulties, usually. thanks for this treat.

    4. I’m a FIRM believe that your duty to your children ,last until you die. What you, yourself put into their life will last many life times. It Kody life and her body. She will live with the choice until she is no long around. I have a weird outlook on things. Its her choice to have or not to have. THANKS

    5. You can’t be Bette and Tina and not be understanding, caring, and compassionate with your children. Fortunately my parents were pretty much always there for whatever, even if they weren’t quite sure they wanted to know. Dakota will be fine whatever the results, and I think its awsome what she’s planning for her parents.

    6. That’s pretty cool that Dakota did their anniversary gift as a class project. Helps to have the right equipment.

Having Zoe and Kody hanging out together was nice to see. Funny that she discovered the EPT test in the trash. Nothing like being busted when you least expect it. Zoe gave Kody sage advice…I feel like Zoe is an old soul.

Everyone should feel like they can talk to their parents about anything without judgement. We should all be so lucky to have Bette and Tina as our moms!

That was tough for Bette to relive, the loss of their child. Understandable her feelings about it though.

The cliffhanger…arugh!! But, in a good way.
