    Vignettes: Chapter 7

Alice walked through the living room, picking up empty wine glasses and dishes to bring into the kitchen and Tina followed behind, grabbing what she left behind. In the kitchen, Alice tidied things up then yawned. Tina smiled.

All this excitement too much for you? Tina asked.

Definitely. I could fall asleep standing up.

    How are the sleeping arrangements?

Alice scrunched up her face. Hmm… thats a good question. This is what I was thinking- in the two spare bedrooms I thought Dana and Bette could sleep in. Shane could take the couch…

And what about me? Tina asked.

Figuring you and I have kept in touch the closest over the years I thought it would be less awkward for you to sleep on an air mattress in my room than anybody else… unless you want your own space –

Thats fine, Al. Tina interrupted. I would love to have a sleepover in your room! I just figured you and Dana would share a room. Tina raised an eyebrow.

In her dreams. Alice muttered avoiding Tinas questioning stares. Just then Bette walked into the kitchen, sparing Alice explanations.

I think Im going to head out and get some sleep. Bette said.

    Head out? Alice asked.

    To my hotel.

No way, missy. Youre staying here with the rest of us. No sense in spending money when you have a bed here. Alice said, taking Bettes purse off her arm.

    I insist, Al.

No. Alice stubbornly replied, pushing Bette to one of the spare rooms. You sleep here and not another word about it. Bette shrugged and waved a white tissue in the air, implying surrender.

When Bette, Alice and Tina entered the living room, Dana and Shane were in the middle of a conversation, looking at a couple of pictures. Shane was talking while Dana sat next to her, intrigued with whatever she was saying. The other three women looked at each other, questioning whether or not they should interrupt. Tina took the first step, her curiosity getting the better of her.

What are you guys talking about?

    1. I just love your writing so much it seems like a crime if I didn’t comment on every chapter. I love the flashbacks. The way you keep the story making sense and the emotion and humor through the changes in time is awesome.
