what if… (XIX)
Tina spent the afternoon of the third Monday since Bette left walking along the beach. The sun was setting, the sea breeze was caressing her face, making her company.
As she was walking she noticed how the wind was gluing her t-shirt to her now bigger belly. Feeling her belly bigger, showing how a new life was growing inside made Tina smile with pride, hope and joy.
She was thinking about Bette, about their life, about the problems they were having before the big night, the worst night of her life. Tina could think about it all now without shivering, without feeling the tears rolling down her cheeks.
She could see all Bette did with perspective, which didnt make it less painful, but she could she her own role in what was happening with them.
Seeing the rocks at the end of the shore Tina faster her pace, as if the rocks were calling her name, she wantd to see the sun setting from there. So beautiful so peaceful, so pure, so flawless.
Sitting down between two soft rocks Tina sighed, getting all the calm from the view she was looking at, for the beauty that was filling her heart, for the breeze that was caressing her bare arms, cradling her hair.
Closing her eyes, taking the soft cold sand in between her fingers she wished Bette were there, she prayed for Bette to be ok, for them to have a future, for the baby to have Bette in her life
As she was thinking, listing the important things in her life, thinking about Alice, Shane and Dana, about how much they meant to her, Tina felt a shiver, her body reacting to something bigger that herself, her hands trembling under the soft sand, her feet losing the balance she opened her eyes.. she was not scared as the sweetest feeling run through her body as she was turning her head and then as her eyes focused the horizon, she knew it.
She saw it between the tears that were already welcoming her future. Her past holding her future was walking towards her, her pace slow, tentative, full of doubts, guilt and Tina could see in the way her arms were moving, full of hope and love.
Tina stood still, unable to move any muscle, lost in the way Bettes hips were moving towards her, in the way her shy lost smile was fighting to grow on her scared beautiful face, lost in the way Bette was looking at her, in the way her arms, were opening, aching for her embrance.
It took Bette what it looked like an eternity to reach Tina, when she finally did , looking down at Tinas teary sweet face, she whispered, trying to vocal all the thoughts all the feeling camping on the edge of her heart, dying to be heard,
Bettes mouth opened but no words were heard, as no words made it to the open space Tina knew what it was, just by looking Bette in the eyes.
She saw all the pain, all the lost, all the guilt, all the fears, all the regrets Tina knew where Bette words were, they were killing her inside, hiding between her heart walls
Tina standing up slowly took Bettes hand in hers, and moving closer, bare feet, feeling the cold sand filling her senses with joy and promises, she took Bettes chin with her free hand. Leaning slowly, moving her face just inches apart from Bettes ear, feeling the proximity, feeling Bettes lips trembling with anticipation, with love and tenderness, Tina whispered,
Baby…Dont ever leave me again
Bettes walls melted with Tinas words. Her body shivered before braking down, before she got lost in Tinas arms, before her face found the place where she knew she could rest for the rest of her days, before her dry lips found the fountain of all her strength, before Tina held her face between her hands looking at her in the eyes, before sweet tender words were whispered filling her wounded soul before all that… Bette knew that the future belong to them as the past taught them what the present could do to them.
Bettes tears drew Tinas cheeks with stories never told, with promises waiting to be born, with lies killed in the desert of her pain.
Tinas tears caressed Bettes lips with a future promised, with a forgotten past, with love, passion and secrets to be told.
Holding each other, feeling the sunset of their past welcoming the night of their future, Alice found them as she was picking Tina up.
