    Chapter 3

     

    Shane stopped mid-stride and turned, a big smile crossing her face when she spotted Bette.  Turning back to the direction she was headed but shrugged her shoulders as if making a choice and then turns towards Bette.  “What brings you out to my humble establishment?”

     

    “I’m not interrupting anything am I?” Bette asks when she sees Shane look back in the other direction.

     

    “No … no I just wanted to catch some kid … you know a lost soul.  I hope they come back.” Shane says almost to herself.  Turning back to Bette, “OK so what does bring you here?”

     

    “Well if you’re sure.  I just had some time and thought I’d come here for a change.”

     

    “Great … really great.  Did you see Zingy in the front?  He’s trying out his new trick and from what I’ve seen he seems to be landing it.”

     

    Bette looks up to the front.  “No I didn’t catch that yet but I’ll say hi to him before I leave.” 

     

    He’ll love that.  You know he got a hair cut just for you.   He is always trying to impress you.” Shane says with a wink.

     

    “He doesn’t have to impress me, he’s good just the way he is.  But I just mentioned that if I was his mother I’d want him to get a haircut.” Bette laughs a little surprised she has that much influence on one of Shane’s kids.

     

    “I don’t know what you said but he’s been walking around with his chest pumped up.  It’s a good sight to see.”

     

    “It wasn’t much really.  I just listened to him.  He really is quite the artist.  We talked about how skateboarding is just a free form of expression.  He just … just I don’t know.” Bette finishes embarrassed at the look on Shane’s face.

     

    “Uhum” was all Shane said but her canary eating smile spoke for her.

    Tina was so proud of Angelica.  She has been working so hard on her painting, spending extra time at the school after class, getting all her homework done and turned in, as well as raising a few of her grades.  She wanted her vision to be part of the showing, it was such a single minded effort that it reminded Tina of Bette’s dedication and devotion to art.  For a child who had never met her Mother’s former partner, Angelica possessed so many of Bette’s traits it was frightening and endearing all rolled up in her child.

    3. Let’s hope Tina makes it back in time for Angie’s show. Maybe Bette can be a visiting judge so at least one of her parents will be there. Even if they don’t know about one another. I don’t know if I would be so carefree to hand my child my charge card and tell him to go shopping without supervsion(lol). Thanks for the update.

    5. I am so liking this!!! I am sure one of Shane’s kids will be in the show and Bette will be there. I just hope Tina shows up late and run’s into Bette. Thanks PPVS

    6. Here’s hoping Angie is as sensible with the credit card as she was in turning down Paige. I guess she’s really earned some credit with her mother. So is this interest in art going to bring the child and her estranged mother together at last?

    7. Great writing. I am wondering how you’re going to get them together. Will Bette be a judge or will she see a notice about the Art Fair and the entrants? OR do you have something up your sleeve? PPS.

    8. I hope that Angelica will be wise with her mother’s credit card. Can Tina really trust her daughter with her card?? lol Anyways, Bette and Shane have gotten closer since she’s been diagnose with leukemia. I really hope that Tina and Bette will see each other again…PPS
