Wherever You Go, There You Are

Tina just grimaces at the description.  “Thank you” Tina says while charging up the stairs.

Tina stops in front of Angelica’s door to collect herself before she knocks.  Her thoughts are centered on how sorry she is to have been so late.  “Angelica … Angelica can I come in?” Tina calls out after knocking on her door then waiting.

Finally after a few futile attempts Angelica responds.  The simple word “Yes” was fine but the tone of Angelica’s voice clued Tina in on so much more.  Angelica’s voice was hoarse and quiet.  The way it became when Angelica has been crying.

This fact pierced Tina’s heart.  Angelica should be ecstatic, she has just won first place, being rewarded for all her hard work but Tina felt horrible because she had ruined it.

Slowly opening the door Tina peers inside to see Angelica spread out across her bed.  She is laying face down with her pajamas already on as if she is all ready for bed.  Walking in Tina gently lays her hand on her back while sitting down next to her.  “Honey your painting … it … it was amazing.” Tina says with awe in her voice.

“I … AM … SO … PROUD of you.” Tina states emphatically.

Angelica stills while Tina talks but doesn’t turn.  She keeps her head down, away from Tina.  Tina decides to wait her out, continuing to gently rub her back.  Thinking again about all the energy and work Angelica put into the painting, pride swells within Tina.

Angelica finally turns to look at Tina. The heights of her cheeks are red from crying, her eyes puffy but still reflective.  Instinctively Tina reaches up to brush her cheek, caressing the softness of Angelica’s skin.

“Honey I’m so sorry I didn’t get to the opening but I made the closing.  Why did you leave, you knew I was coming?”

Angelica shakes her head slightly not wanting to talk about the art show, she was still mad at her Mom and wasn’t ready yet to let go of the anger.

“Can I ask you about your painting?”

Angelica remains silent but still looking at her mother with her big soulful brown eyes.

“Come on honey, talk to me.  Please?” Tina asks after a moment.

“Mom you like it?” Angelica finally gives in.

Tina nods her head, “A lot.”

“Did you see I won … I won first place?” Angelica explains bragging a little now that she was opening up.

“I saw.  When I opened the program and saw the little icon beside your name I was so proud of you Angie.  You really are so good.  You like painting don’t you?”

“Yeah I do.  It’s hard to describe but I see things and I just want to get them down as I see it in my head.”

“Wow Angie it’s amazing that you have all that in you.  You know that was one of the major qualities that helped me have you.” Tina says while still caressing Angie’s cheek.

“Really …” Angelica is stunned that her Mom brought up the subject of the donor.  “Really Mom you didn’t pick him because he was black?” Angelica now spits out her anger coming back.

Tina feels slapped by Angelica’s outburst.  She contemplates what Angelica has just said for a moment before responding.  “Honey there were a lot of reasons for doing what I did.  In a lot of ways they’re hard for me to explain but mostly they’re pretty complex.  I don’t think you are quite to the place where you will understand my answer.  Can we table it for say twenty years of so?” Tina says attempting some humor.

When Angelica offers no response Tina counters, “Really Angelica I will go thought it with you but right now you wouldn’t understand.  Believe me I barely understand it myself.  But I promise I will explain.  When the time is right you will get it all.” Tina finishes.

After all that explanation the only part Angelica heard was the I promise.  That was when she knew her Mom would never tell her.

    1. Tina being stuck at the airport reminds me of my times flying out of Chicago. I hate that place. As for what the hell is wrong with Tina, some things you just can not help. Granted if I was Angie I’d be angry too, but still, work is work and sometimes it holds pole position.

    2. I read that last line and just thought “ouch!” When your personal promise as a mother makes your child believe just the opposite, that’s when you know you’re in trouble. Sorry about not posting after the other chapter, I just came online for the first time since yesterday afternoon. Powerful image of the painting J…absolutely powerful. Clearly there is a whole lot going on inside Angelica’s head, that’s for sure! Can’t wait to read the next step in this story! Thanks!

    3. Tina’s really struggling. She needs that extra pair of CARING hands and caring heart that Bette could bring to the family. In Tina’s quest to be successful in her career, she letting the most important of her life play second fiddle. Time is always more important than material things. It’s a difficult balancing act. PPS.

    4. I really like this chapter. Paige really isn’t a friend to Angelica. She needs to get rid of her fast! Michael and Rodger are two idiots. I’m happy that Angelica said something to them. Anyways, I really hope that Tina will tell Angelica the truth instead of keeping her in the dark about Bette. I think that’s sweet about giving Shane money for her “big family.” Thanks for the post. PPS!

    5. WOW!!!!! I can see Angie running away from Tina. I do hope that Tina realies she is going to loose Angie if she keeps the truth from her. Bette is doing better and that is so great. I just hope that she and Shane can get the teen shelter they want for run aways. Great Story. Thanks PPS

    6. This is a great story so far and I know it will only get better and have Bette and Tina with some kind of relationship and hopefully it will be a loving one again. They all need it right now and Angie will be the one big catalyst that brings it about. Can hardly wait for the next chapter. PPS

    7. Poor Angie. I can understand her losing faith in Tina. I’m usually a big Tina fan, but she’s not that appealing at the moment. Can’t wait to see how you tie everything together. Hope you had a good holiday. Thanks for the chapter.

    8. thank you for your kind words….on to the story: i hope tina will pay more attention to angie and talk to her…can’t wait for B&T to meet, i have a feeling that Angie will make it happen somehow

    9. what a nice surprise to visit on Labor Day! You have a way of starting your stories that captures me as a reader. Like all the other readers; I can’t wait till Bette and Tina meet; and see if the new and improved Bette handles the truth that Tina had Angelica, using their Donor and not letting her know all these years! Fireworks or just thankfulness that Tina did love her all those years ago! I recall you having 5 chapters ready and this is number 4….mmmm, does that mean we get one more soon? Please? Thanks for this new story.

    10. What a treat to come home and fine two posts from Jwet. Hmm, maybe Tina will need to consult a professional about Angelica’s artistic abilities… ;)

    11. Wow, I was really hoping Bette was going to show up for some reason. Not good that Angelica doesn’t hold much belief in Tina’s promise. I think its time Angelica heard about Bette.

    12. Hmmm it’s not easy being the sole parent; and surely it must feel oftentimes for Tina that her right arm is missing. Ange certainly needs her mama B and Tina needs to confide her story to Ange b4 this girl somehow runs to LA and Shane’s and Bette’s home for streetkids…used to work in that field myself…enjoying the developing drama. Thx for shout out & comments.

    13. Angelica needs Bette right now. Without even knowing it, Angelica is reaching out to her other mother. I get the feeling that you are laying some ground work with this grant that Bette is looking into. Is this going to be the setting that Angelica and Bette come face to face?

    14. Wow Jwet, that fact that Angie doesn’t hold much credence to Tina’s promises is extremely sad. Well I guess she will have to figure it out herself. I like Bette’s idea of a place for the other kids, maybe Angie can contribute to that in the future.

    15. Interesting, interesting. Now I summarize my thoughts. The picture shows Angie an inner fight for me with her black half. Yes, perhaps she also feels this a little is missing, Bette. Bette could help her much better. The picture shows for me a little an uncaring mother Tina is. I am pleased that she will meet Bette soon. You have answered my question. Although you write this for Tina and Bette become friends again. But I am plead you on my knees. And take sun to my heart. You must let Tina and Bette become a couple again. This would help Bette certainly furthermore to fight against her illness. Because leukemia can break out again. Tina and Angie can give Bette love and satisfaction, this would Bette help for her state of health. Therefore please let the two to the end of this story happily and contentedly live with each other in love and peace, please.

    16. It’s very difficult when children don’t have basic information about their origins. Tina is keeping this big secret to protect herself not Angelica. Angel needs Tina’s attention and honesty not her credit card. This is already a great story.

    17. HEY JW, I have just finished your latest two chapters. And all I can thin is WOW!!! Bette is softer. Her brush with her own mortality has opened her eyes to some of her failings. Now, she is able to step back and let other’s run the show,. Loved the stagecoach metaphor there. I was think about a puppet master. Shane has been a brick throughout it all. Sweet to see that they are giving back and Bette is now ready to do more. Then Angelica anad Tina: seems like Tina has taken on the worst of Bette’s character traits to survive and prosper in the film industry. Difficulty here is that Angelica is now suffering like Tina once did. And we all know how well that ended. It looks like Angelica is now on the hunt for the truth and I do hope this leads to Bette. These pair need to know about each other and share their thoughts and experiences of Tina. Maybe this could even bring Bette and Tina some closure although I do hoper that the lessons they have learnt will allow them to rekindle their love affair. JW, as ever you astound and amaze me at every turn. The simplest gestures often make the biggest impact. Thank you for this rocking tale. More please. Your Loyal Fan.

    18. I can’t wait to see how you bring about the Angelica, Tina and Bette meeting. Angie’s gonna be a runaway, right, huh, right???? I can’t wait for the next chapter.

    20. A promise is I will do it. not now but soon. A maybe is a forget about it. Angie might be a runaway,or a artist in Bette showing. She will meet Bette and fall in love with her other mom not knowing her,are that she is her other half. thanks
