With a little help from my friends-Chapter 33
George heard Tina calling for her and turned around. She smiled when she saw Alice turn around then she made her way towards them. “Look at you!” said Tina giving her sister a hug. George took a step back and twirled around.
George: “Hi Alice. Im gald you came.”
Alice: “Yeah well I guess it is your birthday.” she said smugly then turned back around.
Bette: “Happy birthday George, you look great.”
George: “Thank you my dear.” she said taking a bow. “Well I was running a little late so I can’t talk, I gotta go set up. uh go ahead and drink up, it’s on me tonight.” she said before she walked towards the stage.
Bette: “Come on Alice you can be a little nicer.”
Alice: “Uh hello, I was the one who was wronged here”
Tina: “yeah but I heard she had a pretty good apology.”
Alice: ‘Blah” she responded as she took a swig of her beer.
Moments later the stage lights when on and the bar grew quiet. George strapped on her guitar and walked over to the mic. She winced at the lights and smiled. “Hi and welcome. We are uh band numero uno and we are called ’10-4 and the good buddies’ note the trucker hat” she said pointing the the drummer. “The first song we are going to be playing is a cover of Reel Big Fish’s, she had a girlfriend now” she smiled at Tina “It was the first song I learned because I wanted to play it for my sister after she told me she was *****. I thought it was funny…1..2..3..4..” George was feeling a little nervous but quickly snapped out of it. She had forgotten how fun it was to be on stage. The crowd loved them as well, people were clapping and singing along. They finished up their first set and had 10 minutes to rest. George headed back to the table and sat down.
Tina: “You guys are really good. I can’t believe you told the story about that song”
George: “Sorry girl, I had to”
Kathy: “So when did you do all this?” she said pointing at Georges hair and outift.
George: “Well, im another year closer to old so I felt I needed a change”.
Kathy: “But your pants, they actually almost fit you”.
George: “I did it for you moma” she shouted dramaticly and with southern accent then stood up. “Im gonna go get a drink before we go back on.” she then leaned over and wispered “You can’t ignore me forever” as her lips lightly grazed Alice’s ear.
When George walked away Alice turned to Tina and said “I guess she does look cute, l like her jeans”. Tina just raised her eyebrows and smiled. This caused Alice to roll her eyes and she took another swig of her drink. George walked back on stage and the lights went down again. She straped on her guitar and returned to the mic. ‘Alright, we’re back. Before we start I want to introduce you to someone, her name is Alice” George pointed and the spotlight followed causing Alice to imediantly cover her face with embarasment. “Don’t be shy. You see I did something really stupid the other day and well, I really pissed her off. Believe me you don’t want to piss her off. I figured I had to do something to let her know how I felt and how sorry I was but I didn’t want to be sappy so here goes” George turned away from the mic and began to strum, the band quickly followed. George walked back up to the mic and winked at Alice then began to sing,
I’m so cool, too bad I’m a loser
I’m so smart, too bad I can’t get anything figured out
I’m so brave, too bad I’m a baby
I’m so fly, that’s probably why it
Feels just like I’m falling for the first time
I’m so green, it’s really amazing
I’m so clean, too bad I can’t get all the dirt off of me.
I’m so sane, it’s driving me crazy
It’s so strange, I can’t believe it
Feels just like I’m falling for the first time
Anyone perfect must be lying, anything easy has its cost
Anyone plain can be lovely, anyone loved can be lost
What if I lost my direction? What if I lost sense of time?
What if I nursed this infection? Maybe the worst is behind
It feels just like I’m falling for the first time
It feels just like I’m falling for the first time
I’m so chill, no wonder it’s freezing
I’m so still, I just can’t keep my fingers out of anything
I’m so thrilled to finally be failing
I’m so done, turn me over cause it
Feels just like I’m falling for the first time
Alice along with everyone else at the table sat in amazment. It was the first time any of them had ever heard George sing one of her songs. She finished off the second set as calmy and energetic as the first. Alice was quiet as she watched the show. Tina looked over numerous times to see a faint grin on Alice’s face. As soon as the set was over Alice got up and made her way to the bathroom. George noticed her walking away and followed her. As soon as Alice opened the door George was right behind her. Alice felt George breathing and turned around, they were inches apart.
Alice: “I liked your song”
George: “Im glad” she wispered.
They were both silent for a moment, taking time to look into eachothers eyes. Alice couldn’t fight it anymore, she couldn’t contiue to be angry.
Alice: “So did you really mean it?”
George: “Mean what?” she said leaning closer to Alice’s mouth.
Alice: “That you were falling”. she breathed quietly.
George closed the gap between them and kissed Alice passionatly. Alice wraped her arms around George’s neck and deepened the kiss. George finally pulled away and replied “I meant every word of it”
