Lara’s apartment.
This is where Lara was bound to go, one way or another. Either to pack up for Paris in a tearful rage or just to talk to a friend if one was there. That friend is there. Seated together on the couch, Carmen has her right arm around Lara’s shoulders.
Lara ”I was this close…this close to leaving. And then you showed up.”
Carmen ”You would’ve actually left?”
Lara ”That’s how bad it’s been, Carmen. And there’s nothing I can do. Nothing I say helps.”
Carmen ”I think…Dana just needs to calm down. There’s no telling what that medication’s doing to her.”
Lara ”I just wish there was something I could do.”
Carmen ”All you can do is be there. No matter how much it hurts. You’re always there for the person you love.”
Lara ”Yeah. …Um…how are things with you?”
Carmen ”Oh…Shane fucked Cherie Jaffe. Like an idiot. And you know what? I’m there for her. She and I are gonna work this shit out.”
Lara ”Shit. She cheated on you?”
Carmen ”…I think…she has a hard time dealing with monogamy. She’s never been with anyone that’s forced her to consider it. …And she says she wants to try. So we’re trying. It’s all we can do. I don’t know, maybe she’s jealous about…”
Lara ”About what?”
Carmen ”She thinks I’m trying to your, ’knight in shining armor.’”
Lara cracks her first smile in some time.
Lara ”That crazy straight boy stuff? The, ’boy rescues the damsel in distress, because she doesn’t know how to defend herself?’”
Carmen ”Hey, at least the idea’s progressed a little. Now we’re talking about girls rescuing other girls.”
Lara grins, shaking her head. She still looks down.
Lara ”Dana’s the one in need of rescuing. I guess I’m not good at it.”
Carmen ”Lara, it’s not a matter of being good at it. It’s that you’re at least wanting to. But…seriously, you were this close to taking off for France?”
Lara ”Like I said…that’s how bad it is. Alice is probably over there now.”
Carmen ”…You’re not mad about what I said about Al are you?”
Lara looks at Carmen.
Lara ”She’s in love with us. Or she’s at least in love with Dana. These past several months have been painful and this has just made it worse. She always wants to be there for her. Dana always wants to be there for Alice. …There were times after we’d finish up on set when we were working with Veronica and Francesca that…I’d be afraid to go to Dana’s afterward.”
