Young Love: Chapter Fifteen
“Hey mom—dad,” Dana smiled faintly. “What are you guys doing home so…earlier?” She scratched her head and looked at her parents.
“Well—the event was cancelled because of damage to the stage. So we decided to come back home.” Sharon looked at her daughter and then at Alice.
“Who is this Dana?” Irwin smiled at his daughter.
“Oh—umm, mom, dad, this is Alice—my friend. Mom, dad—Alice.” She smiled nervously and rubbed her sweat palms together.
“It’s nice to meet you Mr. and Mrs. Fairbanks,” she shook Irwin’s hand and smiled. She lazily shook Sharon’s hand and smiled weakly.
“Well nice to finally meet you Alice,” Irwin grinned. “I heard a lot of things about you.”
“I hope there were good things.”
Irwin nodded. “They were all good things.”
“What is she doing here Dana? You know you’re not supposed to have company while we’re gone.” Sharon looked at Alice.
“She just got here like fifteen minutes to talk.”
“Well that’s what the phones are for. She could have just called you if she wanted to talk.” Sharon smiled faintly, and Alice rolled her eyes.
“Well mom—why is it a problem that I had a friend come over?”
“Don’t talk back to me,” Dana sighed.
“Mom, I wasn’t talking back. I didn’t want to be alone in the house, so she came over.”
“Well I really wish you have called us to tell us she was stopping by.”
“Sharon,” Irwin looked at her wife.
“Mom, I’m seventeen years old, going on eighteen. I think I’m old enough to take care of myself, I didn’t think I needed to call you to tell you that I’m having company over. I didn’t think it would be this serious.”
“I really don’t like how you are talking to me. For that, you are grounded young lady.”
Dana scuffed. “Mom!”
“Sharon, I think you’re taking things a little too far with this.” Howie sat in the background chuckling.
“Shut up Howie! You’re not making things any better.” Dana snarled.
Alice began to back away from Dana. “I think I’m going to leave.” Dana grabbed Alice’s arm to stop her. “Okay, I’ll stay.” She stood next to Dana.

totally agree with Inkedino5, those were my thoughts also, does Sharon suspect Dana is gay? that would explain her reaction.
What was wrong with Sharon??? I think the punishment was totally uncalled for. Gee, I felt so bad for both A & D. You know, this means D would never be able to come out of the closet with a mother like that. Or she would be kicked out of the house if she came out. Now Akira, please be nice. Wait, maybe A would get some comfort from B & H and form some kind of strategy to deal with this. Seriously, grounded at 17 and almost 18. What decade are we talking about? 1950s? 60s? I guess I am losing it at 4:30am . I better shut up and go to bed. I can’t wait for your next post to find out how things pan out. Thank you and Good night.
that was one rude Sharon Fairbanks. uh uh Alice didn’t deserve that, mean Sharon, mean.
Sharon was being irrational…god, I hate parents who abuse their authority like that…so annoying…Helena and Bette are cute as always…I’m sure Alice has to come over and talk about Dana and her family, I mean what else would it be…Shane and Carmen (Playa-Playa for getting with the quarterback’s girl) are adorable as well…pps
hate sharon…love alice and that whole “i’m leaving…guess i’m not” line…cant wait for the sharmen relationship to bloom…pps…love your work!
