THE FOSTERS gave us a treat in episode 1×10. In the midst of the drama of Stef recovering from a gunshot wound, we got a flashback that told how they got together. We’ve got the video, transcript, and screencaps right here:

The scene starts with a much femmier version of Stef (pink sweater!)standing with her arms over her chest, leaning against a car, clearly in the parking lot of Lena’s school.

Lena comes out of the building, walking very authoritatively, shaking her head as they come face to face, “I’m not doing this. I’m not. I’m not getting involved with a married woman,” she tells Stef. Clearly there is a huge part of their history that we haven’t been privy to – yet (FANFIC CHALLENGE!). Obviously for Lena to say that, they’ve already been involved or flirted with involvement.

Lena continues as Stef just watches her spout off, “Women like you…you are just passing through. But this is where I live, Stef.” Nice prepared speech, Lena! One many lesbians could aspire to :-) Stef is nodding at Lena waiting her turn.

Screeching halt – Stef stops her in her tracks, “I told Mike, and I told my Dad, and I told all – well, most – of my friends…I told them I’m gay.” She comes up for air. Lena is silenced. “I even used the word lesbian,” Stef throws out whatever can make her case.

Lena is starting to look … emotional.

Stef pushes on, “I told them I met a woman I can’t live without, and…” her voice catches, “I belong with you Lena.” Stef is starting to choke up. She knows if she doesn’t win Stef over right here,  she’s going to lose her for good. ”

Lena is thinking. Stef is watching and realizes there is hope. “That is if you’ll ha…”

Now Lena is choked up, but she’s able to spit out, “You had me at lesbian.”

Stef pulls her in for a sweet kiss…
