What Might Have Been – (Chapter: Run Ins With The Past)
Story written on July 4, 2006 by lostinthecity.
The hustle and bustle of the city was beginning to get to the blonde girl walking to the subway. "Why did I ever leave Los Angeles? Moving there was hard enough without then deciding to move to another big city. I must be crazy" she thought to herself as she was pushed around by strangers all in a giant rush to get nowhere. She finally managed to get herself to the appropriate T stop and waited until she saw the signs for the station leading to Harvard University to get off.
Spencer Carlin walked into her dorm room and crashed down onto her bed making her roommate Jamie look up and laugh. "Rough day?" Jamie asked her in her overly thick New England accent. "Yah…laugh all you want, but some of us didn’t grow up around this god forsaken train system" Spencer grumbled back. Jamie grabbed her roommate by the hand and pulled her up out of bed "well then go get hot because we’re going out tonight. My friend’s band is playing at Avalon at nine and we’re going to be there front row center. Plus…I hear his band is opening for a really really hot girl act" she teased. Jamie loved to tease Spencer about her sexuality because she swore that if she ran into Spencer on the street her first thought would be "angelic little church girl". Spencer laughed and got off of her bed. "Fine give me a half an hour and we’ll get out of here.
While Spencer showered she thought about how much Jamie reminded her of Ashley. She never spoke of Ashley to Jamie because she wasn’t sure she was ready to get into that kind of pain yet. Jamie knew that Spencer had graduated early from high school and ran away to the east coast as fast as she could, but Jamie had no idea why. More often than not Glen, Clay and Mr. Carlin would come out to Massachusetts to visit Spencer because she seemed to have no desire to go back to California at all. It was like her past was there haunting her. Spencer shivered at the very thought of her haunting past, knowing that someday she would have to tell Jamie about Ashley, but also knowing that it was going to be painful and not something she was looking forward to doing.
