What Might Have Been – (Chapter: Run Ins With The Past)

Spencer and Jamie watched Alex perform and Spencer even managed to lose herself in his music for a little while, but then Ashley walked onstage carrying her guitar without the rest of her band and Spencer went silent just staring at her. "She’s as beautiful as ever" Spencer thought to herself "she hasn’t changed at all". Just then Ashley started speaking: "Hey everyone, i’m so glad that you could all be here for the kickoff of my first ever North American tour. I usually start off with everyone’s favorite song ‘Just A Campus Rumor’ but tonight I had an experience that changed that. I retired this song about two years ago when I was touring in Germany and I realized that crying for the girl I had loved and lost wasn’t going to bring her back to me I refused to sing either of these songs, but tonight I saw that girl again for the first time, completely by accident. She raced out of here so fast that I know she still hates me. I wish she could be here to hear these words". WIth that Ashley sat down and launched into "I Still Think Of You"
In these endless days, am I bound to be alone? Oh here I sit again…
thinking about what went wrong, picturing your tears
    and every tear i’ve shed…knowing….
That I can’t tell you no matter how I try
I can’t tell you that I call just to hear you on the line
Broken down and all worn out, trying to run away
as I cross state lines people look at me
and see…all that pain that i’m trying
    just trying to leave behind
    knowing…
That I can’t tell you no matter how I try
I can’t tell you that I call just to hear you on the line
and i’ll just keep on running
    running from the truth
because everybody knows, that I still think of you
I claim that i’m not fleeing, but they see it in my eyes
that i’m desperate for an answer
and i’ll just keep on running
trying to leave my past behind
I’ll say that i’m recovered…that you’re not on my mind
that my heart is in my hands. I didn’t give it all away
