    Years later, Spencer is ready to make a big committment. Does it include Ashley Davies?

     

    “What about Ashley?”

    “What about Ashley?” Spencer asked, absently twisting her new engagement ring around her slender finger. It felt awkward still, the commitment weighing heavily on her hand and her conscience.

    “Does she know? Have you told her?” Lindsay asked, sitting across from Spencer at the small café table in their favorite coffee shop. Though she and Spencer had undergone a hard breakup, they had managed to piece their friendship together over the years and now it felt as if they had never dated at all. Lindsay knew Spencer in and out, had seen her over the years as she graduated from college and immediately took a teaching job at a local elementary school. Seeing her with a class of third graders was like seeing her at her very best—almost as magical as seeing her with Ashley Davies.

    “I guess I don’t really understand what this has to do with her. We haven’t talked…I mean actually talked in months now. She’s a very busy lady these days. But even if she wasn’t, we’re not together anymore. We haven’t been in years and I don’t understand…”

    “But, don’t you think she’d want to know you’re engaged to someone else? I mean, here’s the thing…”

    “No! No, she doesn’t get to have an opinion about this. It’s my life. For Christ’s sake, she’s me ex!”

    “So am I, and here you are telling me.”

    “That’s different. You and I have worked on getting to this place a long time. Ashley and I haven’t seriously talked since senior year. She got really into molding this spectacular career and now that she has it, she doesn’t have the time to remember her old friend Spencer Carlin.”

    “I don’t believe that. Spencer, you know how you and Ashley are. You’re on, you’re off, you’re on, you’re sort of off but not really and on and on and on. You two are a run-on sentence without a period and now you’re about to add your punctuation and I’m sorry, but she deserves to know. You’re engaged! You’re marrying Rachel.”

    “And I couldn’t be happier. Rachel and I are so good together, you know? She gets me. We’re the same. There’s none of that drama, that constant fighting, that…that…”

    “Passion? Intensity?”

    1. so…every so often i skim this site for new chapters but suddenly, i see goaskalice…goaskalice? sounds soo familiar….and then i move to North of Somewhere! *gasp* She’s back! after what? a year now. i’ve missed your writing so much…thanks for coming back

    2. And here I thought Ashley and Spencer lived happily ever after. I should have known they would break up again. These two just can seem to make it stick. So why did they break up for the final time? I hope Ashley decides that it’s time to go after Spencer. I haven’t read this story in a long time. I think it might be time to read it again.
