    Los Angeles Breeds Forbidden Love

    Chapter Nine: Face The Facts

    “Jesus Christ Spencer, where have you been!” Glen shouted, nearly falling out of the chair he’d been seated in as Spencer strode through the door. The dark circles beneath his eyes and tousled hair all hinted that he hadn’t got much sleep last night, and yet again Spencer could feel that tinge of guilt.

    “I’m sorry… I got a little carried away last night…” She began, setting her purse on the counter. Glen was giving her a once-over, checking for any obvious injuries.

    “You couldn’t have called? You can’t just run off like that! Where’d you stay anyways?” His words seemed to run together, and the blonde woman had a hard time focusing. After all, her head was still pounding tremendously, and every so often she’d get hit with a wave of nausea.

    “I stayed…. With a friend.” It was a little fib, one she was willing to tell if it meant he’d stop yelling, “And I’m not some teenager Glen. I’m a grown woman, I can do what I want, when I want.” She added the last part resentfully, her brows lowering as she rested her hands on her hips.

    “Yeah, the same grown woman who tried to kill herself a couple weeks ago, so forgive me if I have a little doubt in your decision making ability!” The frustrated boy tossed a hand in the air as he turned away from her, walking briskly into the living room and beginning to clean up. He liked to be doing something when he was mad, or else the tension just built and built like a coiling spring.

    “Oh great, just throw that in my face…” Spencer muttered, her index finger and thumb pinching the skin between her eyes in an attempt to squeeze the aching pain away. After taking a moment to gather herself she fallowed Glen into the living room, “Look, Glen, I’m sorry. I should have called. I know you were just worried about me.” She spoke it all in one breath, and she sounded more defeated than she did sincere.

    “Your damn right I was worried.” He replied bitterly, placing a few sports magazines into the small rack beside the couch. Turning around the two siblings shared a long look, each one observing the other. They had both changed so much in the recent times, and it was both frightening and entrancing to see these transformations take place. Although, deep down, at their very core’s they were essentially the same as they had always been. Spencer would always be that sweet optimist who strived to see the best in everyone, and Glen would always be the protective boy who tries to hide his sensitivity with macho bravado. No matter what happened, those underlying traits would always exist.
