The Blinded Path of Love C.9 – Incorrigible

“Oh hey Shane, c’mon in, gotta run. You and Carmen can pick up where you left off later.” Kit let out impatiently, barely acknowledging Shane.

Both Shane and Carmen laughed. The first time they really laughed today. Carmen smiled apologetically at Shane and quick-stepped her way back into the Planet. Through open doors Shane could hear loud cheers and applauses from the restless crowd, glad that their DJ decided to reappear.

Shane shoved her hands into her pockets as she walked into the Planet. Her face beaming with pride as she realized the star of the night was Carmen. Her face fell into a frown, why was she proud as if Carmen was officially her girlfriend? There were many things to iron out. And Carmen had not agreed to anything. But she was nonetheless proud of Carmen. Wanting badly to scream to the whole world “That’s my girl!”

Wait wait woh Shane, slow down here. Have you forgotten who you are? Shane berated herself.

Shane squeezed her way through the crowd and ordered a beer from the bar. She wasn’t dressed for clubbing, wearing only a simple black sleeveless tee and low cut jeans, her face makeup-less and her only accessory being her antique leather Gatsby that she thrown on to cover her style less formless product-free hair. But from the way the crowd stared at her as she passed, she was sure she still looked pretty okay.

Leaning against the bar counter, she gazed attentively at Carmen. At the same moment, Carmen looked up from her console and raised her bottle to Shane, smiling widely. Shane mimicked her actions and nodded her acknowledgement, and Carmen turned her attention back to the turntables.

Why she was so worried, Shane didn’t know. She took a swig at her beer and closed her eyes, feeling the music.

“I am incapable of love” Shane’s evil side said.

“That is not true! I am capable of great love!” the good side screamed. Shane nodded silently, agreeing with her good side. She knew she would give selflessly to her friends, why was it so difficult to give to her loved one?

“Because I am afraid of getting hurt!” hollered the evil side.
