“Hello Newton House”

“Hi, um I was wondering if I could to speak to someone about the care of my sister…Alex Kennard. My names Tina Kennard”

“Yes Ms Kennard how can I help you?”

“I was wondering if I would be able to arrange a visit to see her”

“Yes that can be arrange”

“And then I’d like to see about taking her out of care, so she can come and life with me”

“That’s not a problem Ms Kennard its always a happy time in the home when one of our children gets reunited with their family”

“Great, great”

“Shall we arrange a visit for Friday say twelve thirty and then we can take it from their about her returning into your care”

“That would be great thank you so much”

“Until Friday Ms Kennard”

“Goodbye”

Tina put the phone down feeling truly happy for the first time in months, she knew her sister had been taken into care when her mother could no longer care for her because of her drug and alcohol abuse. Her mother refused to tell Tina where was Alex was and made sure Janelle their social worker also reminded silent about Alex’s where abouts. But she was in no position to help her then, she’d only just left home herself and was struggling to make ends meat. She had no job or home but times had changed since then and she was in a new relationship with a new home and a partner who was willing to help Tina care for her sister. This was the beginning of a new life for Tina and it felt blissful.

All the children from the home stood in the centre of the playing field, it was the annual baseball game they played every year so the home could promote team spirit. Something the home truly lacked.

“Right, now the teams are picked batters line up, fielders spread out” A man who Alex and Shane had fittingly called the Governor since he pretty much ran everything in the home shouted to the girls. It was the man who had spoken to Alex on her first day.
