    A Quick Breakfast with Eli


    Bette:

     

    O.k. so we got off to a bit of a rough start, but he’s so much like Tina. Even if he wasn’t Tina’s son I’d still like him, I mean he can’t be more than nine years old but he still managed to command my attention. He seems so sweet and polite but he’s also so brave. Not only did he track me down but he pretty much controlled the conversation, got me to agree to let him handle the ‘situation,’ and I’m not even clear what the ‘situation’ is. I guess I really have changed, because nine years ago I don’t think I’d be so willing to give up control to anybody…including Tina.

     

    "So Eli what do you feel like eating, you can have anything you want."

     

    Maybe I shouldn’t have said that because he just smirked at me. "Anything that your mom would consider breakfast food."

     

    My quick rephrase made him laugh. "Um…I’m not too hungry I ate a lot of granola bars on my way here, plus the toast and fruit you gave me earlier."

     

    "Are you sure you don’t want anything to eat, I heard breakfast is really important for a growing boy." I really don’t want to drop him off at the hotel yet, I can’t believe Eli Kennard is sitting in my car.

     

    "I’m sure…but maybe we can get one of those fruit smoothies."

     

    "A fruit smoothie it is, I know a place that makes the best…" I just pulled into the Planet parking lot, but if I go inside there’s a good chance I’ll run into the girls. I don’t want to share Eli yet, plus I know they’ll have questions that even I don’t know the answers to.

     

    "Is something wrong."

     

    "Huh, no nothings wrong I just have to make a quick phone call." Hopefully they’re all still asleep, if it was me I’d still be passed out.

     

    No one’s answering. Then I hear a low raspy voice, "Hello."

     

    "Hey Dana I’m sorry for waking you up, I should have known that you and Alice would still be asleep. I just wanted to know if we were still on for the barbecue tomorrow."

    15. If Eli has Tina’s smile like Bette thinks he does, Kit probably already knows who Eli is. Bette should realize that it is up to Eli now whether she is in his life or not; Eli has made this huge step to meet her, and Bette should make it clear to him that she wants him in her life – the first chance she gets. I don’t think Tina will be upset with him, it’s not like she has tried to hide Bette from him. But has she tried to hide him from Bette? That’s the question. Excellent story, can’t wait for more!

    17. Holy crap. Bette’s one of his guardians?! Wow. Seems to me Tina must have been really wanting a reunion. And now she’s coming to CA. Can’t wait!
