Sacred Wound_Chapter 3
Sacred Wound_Chapter 3
The hands on the clock seem to wind down slowly as Bette sips on her drink and wait for her friends. Caramel Eyes has put out a ‘code red’ which means the gang has to drop everything that they are doing now and go to the person’s house a.s.a.p.
Alice had informed the others of her Freudian slip, and forewarned them of flying objects and screaming lectures to come. So, they decided to wait for each other and face the music together.
“They’re here.” Bette jumped up from the couch and ran to the protruding sound of the doorbell. “Come in.” Caramel Eyes greeted each individual with a stare of death. One by one, they came in, single file with their heads down walking toward the couch.
“You can look at me now.” Bette spoke with discontent. Alice, Shane, and Dana lift their heads up, as they try to sit up like a student who was just told not to slouch. “Do you have anything to say?”
“We’re really sorry, Bette. We didn’t know if we should tell you or not. You seem happy with Emily, and we didn’t want to ruin that.” Dana said with sincerity. Shane added, “Yeah, we didn’t mean to hide it from you, we were just waiting for the right opportunity.” Then Alice interjected, “We just wanted to make sure that you were ready, and that you can handle the truth.”
Bette picked herself up from the chair that is perpendicular to the couch. She slowly makes her way to the French doors. The gang waited with baited breath for Bette to speak. It was unlike Caramel Eyes to stay quiet. ‘Oh, we’re in deep shit. Porter is going to massacre us and throw our bodies in the basement.’ Alice thought was matched with her quivering legs. “Al, stop shaking your chicken legs.” Dana whispered to calm her alarm friend.
“Thank you.” Bette uttered before turning around to face her friends again. “Thank you for thinking of me and my feelings.” Caramel Eyes averted her eyes to look at the piece of paper that was stuck on the bottom of the coffee table before continuing. “Truth is you’re right. I don’t think it has hit me yet. Tina is back. What do I do?” She whispered to herself.
