    The next day …

    Tina waited in Dana’s hospital room for her to wake up.  She had already been checked out herself and had received an IV to treat minor dehydration and the onset of hypothermia.  So now she was waiting for Dana to wake up.  As she stretched in her seat raising her arms, she again became aware of the jacket she was wearing.  She looked at the USCG logo on the left chest and then the title Lt. Cmdr. Porter on the right chest.  Tina instantly warmed inside as she thought of Bette.  She was lost in her thoughts of their rescue and a certain female rescue swimmer when Dana woke up.

     

    “Tina, what happened?  Where am I?” Dana questioned her.

     

    Tina rushed to Dana’s side to assure her.  “You’re in the hospital.”

     

    “Why?”

     

    “Remember we were on your boat and it started storming?”

     

    Dana shook her head.  “That’s the last thing I remember.”

     

    “That’s because you got knocked out.  You hit your head.  The boat sank and we were stranded for a few hours.”

     

    “Ok.  How did we get here?  Are you ok?”

     

    Tina related to Dana the events of the day in great detail, particularly their rescue. 

     

    “Wow.  My first helicopter ride and I don’t even remember it.  Was it cool?”

     

    “I didn’t pay much attention” Tina told her.

     

    Dana just looks at her questioning.

     

    “Dane, I was worried sick about you.”

     

    “Yeah right.  It sounds like you were a little more focused on what was her name again?  Betty Something than you were on me.”

     

    “It’s Bette.  Porter.  And yes I paid attention to her as well, but I was really worried about you” Tina tried to justify herself.

     

     

     

     

    The next day Dana was released from the hospital and they were sitting around talking.

     

    “I was thinking maybe we could bake some cookies and take them by the Coast Guard office.  You know to thank the crew for saving us,” Tina suggested.

     

    “I’m so sure you really want to thank the pilot and the others from that assignment.  Tina if you want to go see her, just go see her.”

     

    “I just thought it might be a nice gesture on our part.  And I do need to return Bette’s clothes to her.”

    1. This is going to be a fun and interesting story. I too have seen this wonderful movie. Please let it end on a happier note. I cried my eyes out and my heart ached for hours after it ended.

    20. 15 years with the Coast Guard, so how old does that make Bette and then how old are Dana & Tina for her to have made that comment? Love that Tina took the clothes back and look at Dana, giving the good advice!?! Can’t wait to see Bette’s next move…Thx & PPS!!

    21. aqueous_one, since Bette is a commissioned officer she could be about 37 years old after 15 years of service if she entered after college or the Academy. Or she could’ve enlisted at 17 or 18 then become a CO later on. Either way she’s probably under 40 but that’s just based on what I researched years ago without ever actually serving. And LOL@Tina baking cookies for the USCG. XD

    25. Bette you should’ve known Tina was interested in you when she was doing all that whispering in your ear, and really baked cookies, just go head and started already lol
