“Uh huh. If it was anyone else, would you be calling them by their first name?”
Tina blushed.
“Sure Tina. Let’s make cookies for the Coast Guard.” Dana encouraged her. She figured if this Bette made that much of an impression on Tina, she needed to meet her.
The next day at the USCG offices …
“Porter” as she answers the phone.
“Lieutenant Commander Porter, you have some guests at the front gate,” the duty officer advised her.
“Who is it?”
“Names are Tina Kennard and Dana Fairbanks. Said you pulled them out of the water the other day.”
Bette’s heart skips a beat. “Can you let them through and give directions to my office?”
“Sure thing LT.”
“Thanks.”
Bette hangs up the phone and begins to straighten her desk. I wonder why they’re here. Tina. Bette thinks back to the last time she saw her. I told her she knew where to find me. She grins. Guess she did.
As Tina and Dana pull up in front of her building, Bette is waiting outside. As soon as they make eye contact, both Bette and Tina smile and then blush.
"Good afternoon ladies. How are you?"
"Fine. You?" Tina asks.
"Another day at the office," Bette answers. "I don’t believe we’ve officially met" she turns to Dana. "Bette Porter."
"Dana Fairbanks pleased to meet you. And from what I understand, I owe you many thanks for saving my life."
"All I did was fish you out of the water. You need to thank your friend over there. She’s the one who kept you safe and afloat until we came along" Bette praised Tina and she continued to blush.
"So ladies to what do I owe the visit?"
"God this sounds corny but we baked you some cookies as a thank you," Tina could barely look at Bette as she handed her the cookies.
"Tina." Bette got her attention. "It’s not corny at all. And I love cookies," Bette smiled shyly at her.
Tina returned the smile and they stood, staring at each other.
"I’m easy. The way to my heart is through my stomach," Bette told them.

This is going to be a fun and interesting story. I too have seen this wonderful movie. Please let it end on a happier note. I cried my eyes out and my heart ached for hours after it ended.

15 years with the Coast Guard, so how old does that make Bette and then how old are Dana & Tina for her to have made that comment? Love that Tina took the clothes back and look at Dana, giving the good advice!?! Can’t wait to see Bette’s next move…Thx & PPS!!
aqueous_one, since Bette is a commissioned officer she could be about 37 years old after 15 years of service if she entered after college or the Academy. Or she could’ve enlisted at 17 or 18 then become a CO later on. Either way she’s probably under 40 but that’s just based on what I researched years ago without ever actually serving. And LOL@Tina baking cookies for the USCG. XD
”Tina instantly warmed inside as she thought of Bette.” – So Bette is the Coast Guard’s secret weapon against hypothermia?… ;-)
