A Love Built To Last – (Chapter: Chapter Six)

Spencer and Ashley were cleaning up after the luncheon in the cafeteria. “Alright, I love helping out the community as much as the next person, but at least learn to throw away your own garbage,” Spencer began.

“That would only make sense,” joked Ashley. Spencer chuckled and continued to clean up.

“I’m glad you came today,” Spencer began.

“Me too,” agreed Ashley. I’m glad that Kyla dragged me here as much as I hate this school.

“I don’t know what I’d do if I wasn’t able to talk to you for another day,” responded Spencer. The thing is I just m-missed spending time with you, Ash.

“That’s the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me,” Ashley observed. Ashley tilted her head and smiled.

“What?” asked Spencer with a laugh. D-do I have something on my face?

“No, you’re perfect,” Ashley answered. Spencer blushed at Ashley’s comment.

“I uh see how you won the girls over,” stated Spencer. I have to admit that was a good pickup line.

“No, it wasn’t a pickup line though,” Ashley admitted. I’ve only said that to you. So it doesn’t qualify as a pickup line, does it?

“Cool,” responded Spencer. No, I guess it doesn’t.

“What are you doing tomorrow?” Ashley asked with curiosity.

“On Sundays, my Mom and I go to church and we spend the day together,” answered Spencer simply. It’s her day off.

A couple of weeks later, Spencer was getting ready to leave to head to King High. “I’ll see you later, Mom,” Spencer began. Ashley’s giving me a ride to school and I don’t want to keep her waiting.

“Wait, a minute,” sighed Paula. We need to talk first.

“What do you want to talk about?” Spencer asked with curiosity.

“Madison and I had a talk at church the other day and she’s concerned about that girl you’re hanging out with,” answered Paula.

“Madison overreacts,” Spencer pointed out. That girl I’m hanging out with has a name, it’s Ashley.

“Does she?” questioned a skeptical Paula. Madison’s only looking out for you and knows this Ashley a lot longer than you have. What do you even know about this Ashley?

“Yes,” Spencer responded. She doesn’t have to do that. Madison only cares about herself. I can take care of myself. We’re not even friends to begin with, Mom.
