A Love Built To Last – (Chapter: Chapter Six)

“You’re spending all your free time with the girl from what I can see,” began Paula. Your style in clothing has changed.

“We’re just friends,” Spencer stated. I couldn’t dress like a ten year old for much longer. I’m also seventeen years old so I was bound for a change sooner or later.

“Nothing more?” questioned Paula. I don’t believe that.

“No,” Spencer responded. Ashley is waiting for me, Mom. I don’t want to be late for school. I know how much you want me to get a college education and I can’t do that if I’m late for my classes.

“You’re not saying that you don’t have feelings for the girl?” began Paula.

    “Drop it,” Spencer sighed.

“You can’t even talk about this with your own mother,” noted Paula. If you can’t talk to your mother about a crush you have on a girl, and then what can you talk to her about?

“It’s not even about that,” Spencer responded. There’s nothing to tell.

“Why are you treating me like I don’t have a clue when it comes to your love life?” asked Paula. A mother knows, Spence. Spencer rolled her eyes and Paula continued unfazed by Spencer’s eye roll, “The girl seems to be always around in your life lately and is there for you when you’re in trouble. She was your shoulder to cry on when you broke up with Carmen. She’s the female lead in every story that you tell me. You are wearing more revealing clothing than you used to, Spence. Is that just a coincidence?”

Spencer bit her bottom lip thinking about what Paula had said. “I don’t know,” Spencer responded with a sigh. Maybe I do. I haven’t really thought about it. Maybe I have feelings for Ashley. Are you happy, Mom?

“Thank you,” said Paula. Now we can discuss what in the world are you possibly thinking?

“Could we talk about this later?” asked a frustrated Spencer. I’m going to be late and I hate being late.

“Fine,” Paula answered. I just want you to be careful, okay? I don’t like seeing you getting hurt.

“I will be careful and I trust Ashley,” stated Spencer. She’s not Carmen. Spencer left her house and saw Ashley outside of her Porsche waiting for her.

“Running a little late this morning?” Ashley observed.

“Sorry about that,” responded Spencer. My mother is being her usual overprotective self. Madison made my Mom think and that’s never a good sign. Ashley chuckled.

“Ah, I see,” Ashley said. It’s no big deal. My Mom gets into those moods every now and then. It depends on the dude she’s with for the week, but enough of me talking about her. I bought us some breakfast from Starbucks.

“Sweet,” replied Spencer. Ashley opened the door for Spencer and Spencer added, “Thanks Ash.” Spencer went to sit at the passenger side of her car.

“No problem,” Ashley stated with a smile. Ashley went to the driver side of her car and drove to King High.

“So how was your Sunday?” asked Spencer with curiosity.

“Alright,” Ashley answered. How about yours?

    “Alright,” stated Spencer.

“I’m surprised that you’re wearing lowriders jeans,” Ashley began. You’re not dressing the same way these last couple of weeks.

“Is there a problem with that?” asked Spencer. You don’t like the jeans or something?

“Spence, it’s just not you,” Ashley answered. Whoever you’re trying to impress, they’ll have to just like you for who you are just like I do, not what you wear. Spencer nodded.

Awhile later, Spencer, and Ashley were in health class. Spencer was writing her notes and Ashley was too busy looking at Spencer. Ashley noticed she wasn’t the only one who was looking at Spencer when she saw the guys checking Spencer out as well and felt a twinge of jealousy. She took off her jacket and put it over Spencer’s back. The guys groaned. Spencer gave Ashley a questioning look and Ashley pointed out the guys who were looking at Spencer. “Thanks,” mouthed Spencer.

“I got your back,” Ashley mouthed. Spencer smiled and continued to write her notes.

“What if my Mom’s right about Ashley and me?” thought Spencer. Does that mean that I like Ashley?
