A New World Order – (Chapter: Another human being….right?)
"The rest of you will work with the bomb squad and our forensic team. Make sure to give them their assignments on scene documentation and processing. Advise them not to limit the evidence solely on bomb components."
The stern look on her face seems to harden a fraction. "I need you all to be organized and proficient. We can’t afford any mistakes. Do you understand?"
Her strict tone draws out a few "yes ma’ams."
"Get to work." Jesse finishes dismissively.
People start to file out of the room while I hang back a bit, avoiding the crowd. Upon leaving, I feel Jesse’s eyes on me, seemingly piercing through me. I pause by the door for a minute, waiting to see if she has something to say. But after a moment filled with silence for too long, I make my exit. Whatever was on her mind, she obviously wasn’t in a mood to share, which doesn’t surprise me. The only time we interact is when she is delegating assignments. She orders and I obey….it is in my job description. During my arrival at this department, she told me as long as I know my place then we would have no problems. So I bite my tongue most of the time, trying not to clash with her.
"Let’s head down to Seattle Police Headquarters and pick up the evidence they have from the bombings." Sean says, meeting me halfway up the stairs that lead to his office.
On our way to headquarters, I notice that Sean seems to be acting really anxious. His fingers restlessly drum on the steering wheel as we come to a stop at a red light. He stares straight ahead, fixated on something as his face frowns. I look around but don’t see anything out of the ordinary. The light switches to green, but we stay rooted in our spot and the blare of a loud horn soon follows. Sean blinks a few times before realizing that we aren’t moving.
"Pay attention to the road." I go back to aimlessly staring out of the window. The scenery passes by too slowly for my liking, making me wish I had taken my bike.
By his behavior, I know he’s already hooked onto this case, eager to put together his next puzzle. I suppose that’s what makes him a great agent but while he’s preoccupied with his thoughts, he fails to pay attention to anything else, which is extremely bothersome when we’re together.
