A Secret Well Kept – (Chapter: Letting it Out)

"You think I’m the one that runs? How many times since we’ve been friends have you just left me hanging, having to put the pieces all together myself? Wondering what’s going on in your head. Only to have you come back when you’re ready and pretend like everything’s fine? I’m sick of all the lies, and confusion, and walking around all this crap. If you have something to say than stop being such a pussy and say it already." she yelled. Spencer never swears, and while I usually find it cute and endearing this time I can’t hold what words flow from my mouth.

"You want it all out there Spence? You want it all on the table? Well here it is. Your favourite color it’s green, why? Because the grass in Ohio was the brightest you’d ever seen. Your favourite season is fall, reminds you of your grandparents and when everything is just right. Favourite movie? Was that what was next? God Father. You say its Beauty and the Beast, but you’re not that innocent are you? You like the swearing and Italian mobsters. You’ve made me watch all of them how many times? And when you lie Spencer, your eyes get a little bigger and your left hand starts to shake a little. Did I get them all or should I continue? How about how you’ll only eat the top part of a muffin, because the bottoms too messy for you? Or how on Sunday when normal people are sleeping you’ll get up and watch cartoons. Or that you have four different smiles. You tell me when to stop Spence; you tell me when it’s dawned on you." I let out finally feeling like a weight has been lifted. Leaving her with all the ammo she’s going to need to destroy my heart. She’s looking at me with tears spilling down her face. For a second I regret it all, but before I know it those feelings are gone. I’m glad I said that because some part of me feels relieved, feels like maybe telling her wasn’t so bad and now that it’s out in the open it can be over and  done with.

She just stands there in silence for what seems like an eternity. We’re both just staring at each other. Afraid to say another word. Her tears fall, and my heart hurts. I’m too tired to cry. I’m too exhausted from keeping all that in for so long to cry with her. To cry for us. I don’t have anything left in me. Not one word. Not one action. Not anything. So when I see her silently grab her things and walk out the front door. I don’t stop her. I’m not sure I want to. I’m not sure I care.
