Kyla stopped sobbing and she finally smiled at me, ignoring the relieved looks on everybody’s faces. Her eyes met Spencer’s and gasped. "Oh, Spencer! I’m so sorry! What happened to your family?" Kyla asked, trying to embrace Spencer but she backed away in fear of touching the spikes.

My sister looked confused for a second before remembering what had just happened. "Oh, silly me. I’ll…I’ll try and get rid of these things for you." She said, stuttering as she forced herself to concentrate.

The spiked ball and chain that she had dragged around with her palm withdrew itself from its position back to its home in Kyla’s palm. The giant spikes hid back inside of her skin and Kyla’s long hair went back to its normal length.

She wasn’t in pain this time when she put away her "toys".

"You’ve got quite an awesome gift, fledgling." Arial said, admiring the dark power Kyla produced. My sister turned her attention away from Spencer to focus on the strangers who were standing before us.

"We’ll explain everything to you as soon as Aiden comes down here, Ky. Where is he by the way?" I say, noticing his absence just as Spencer did too.

"He jumped out of my bedroom window because he thought he heard somebody lurking around. I decided to meditate without him and I didn’t realize I was activating my ability." She said, still staring at Evana and Arial with great curiosity.

We heard glass crunching upstairs and another set of footsteps coming from Kyla’s bedroom. I glanced at Spencer, who was hoping it was her friend. Without a warning, a gigantic, bulky wolf jumped from the second floor to where we were and he appeared exhausted.

He transformed himself to his human form and he was bruised from top to bottom. "You have got to get yourselves out of here." Aiden panted, wiping the blood off his nose. "I think they’re coming for both Spencer and Ashley…" The boy finished, allowing Kyla and Spencer to hold him up.

Spencer stared into her best friend’s eyes and a tear was forming in one of them. "Aiden, who did this to you?" She asked, signaling for me to help him up as well. "Carmen and her cronies. You’re not going to believe who she recruited this time." he said, leaning his head against Kyla’s.

I stared at my guardians, and then back to Evana and Arial who were struck with severe confusion. "Where are we to go?" Evana asked Spencer. The infuriated girl turned her head and spoke loudly. "We’re going to Ohio, I think I know where they took my family. I’m going to kill those bastards with the next chance I get." She stated, walking with Aiden, Kyla, and I by her side.

"Ok, Ohio it is. Spencer, Aiden and Kyla are coming with me in my car. You four stick to each other and follow me. During the trip, Evana, why don’t you tell them your side of the story and Judith will be the one to determine your loyalty." I commanded, leading everybody to the front door.

The momentary silence was broken by windows shattering upstairs. "Get out of here now! I’ll go fetch us a few maps and atlases for the trip, Ashley!" Judith called out, running with Odette by her side.

If there was ever a time I had ever been more fearful than the night I had been when my parents were killed, it was now. Many lives were hanging in the balance and their continued existence was now determined by both Spencer and I. How could I fail them now?
