    “Vivian” Aster said.

“I think I should go.” The other girl said as she threw some clothes on.

“Yeah you should.” Aster said as she too put some clothes on. All the while Vivian just stood there.

“Would you say something?” Aster asked.

“Like what do want me to say? That seeing you with some other girl makes me feel like I just died. Is this just some game to you?”

“You know it’s not but I told you that we needed a break. That you might need something besides being in a relationship with me.”

“And we decided that we were going to make this work. We both decided.”

“But this need you have to be accepted by Sophie proves that there’s something more. You have to figure yourself out. You need to be comfortable with you and that means coming out again.”

“Great now that you’ve analyzed me you want to tell me what the hell you were doing with that girl?”

“I think it’s pretty obvious what I was doing. You’re so concerned with everyone else. That girl wanted me and she didn’t care who knew.”

“So that makes her better than me? I have to go. Don’t call me. We’re through.”

Vivian ran out of the house tears streaming down her face. When she got away from Aster’s house she called Sophie for a ride. No way she was going on the train looking like she did. Sophie asked no questions just came to get her. She arrived looking worried.

“What happened?” She asked as Vivian got into the car.

“Aster and I…we…we…broke up.” She barely got out between sobs.

Sophie drove her home and stayed with her while she cried. All day they stayed in Vivian’s room. Sophie never left her side. For a whole week they were pretty much inseparable.

“Sophie you’re the best friend I’ve ever had but right now I’m not ready to be in a relationship.” Vivian told her one-day after school as they were going home.

“I know. I just want to make sure you’re okay. I’ve waited like eight years just to tell you how I feel. I can wait until you’re ready.”

When Sophie got to her house she was surprised to see Aster sitting on her steps.

    “Hey.” Aster said.

    “What do you want?”

“Vivian won’t talk to me so I was hoping you could give her a message.”

“Maybe. What do you want me to tell her?”

“Tell her I’m sorry and I know I messed up. And Sophie, Vivian really cares about you. Believe me I can tell. So promise me you’ll take good care of her.”

    “You still love her?”

“I’ll always love her. This may sound stupid but I don’t think its over for good. We just need a little time that’s all. So do you promise?”

    “Yeah.”

    “Thanks.”

Sophie did go and tell Vivian except she left out the part where Aster said she still loved Vivian and instead she told Vivian that Aster said it was over for good. Too bad Aster didn’t know Sophie was gay and that she liked Vivian. Maybe she wouldn’t have told her all that.
