As The Sun Shines Through
I scowled. It wasn’t my fault that my clumsiness had carried over from my human life into my vampire one. Thankfully, Coach Clapp blew the whistle to signal that the class was over.
“I’ll see you in a bit,” Jasper said as he headed towards the boys’ locker room. I ignored him and walked into the girls’ locker room.
As I changed, I couldn’t help but overhear the girls’ lustful gushes of the transfer student, Edward Masen. Lauren Mallory and Jessica Stanley were already vying for his attention; each claiming he liked her. I had to stifle my laughter when another girl quietly told Angela Weber that Edward Masen had rejected them. His exact words were: “I’m sorry; I have to get my dog fixed that day.”
After hearing that, I could not contain my laughter much longer – I had to leave before I drew attention to myself.
Jasper immediately sent me waves of calm as we made our way into the cafeteria. He seemed happy that I had recovered my good humor. I wrinkled my nose in disgust at the odors of the cafeteria food.
“You should dare Emmett to eat an orange today,” Rosalie whispered quickly as we bought our “lunches.” I raised an eyebrow as I followed her to our usual table.
“Alice suggested it,” she said with a grin and sat down.
Daring Emmett to eat an orange, I mused. Well, I suppose he owes me for not ditching with me today.
“Speak of the devil,” I murmured as my clueless brother took his seat next to her. Jasper and Alice took their respective seats next to me.
I decided to wait for the opportune moment to challenge Emmett to eat the orange I had on my tray. He was distracted by whatever Jasper was already challenging him to. A wrestling match, perhaps? Or a game on one of our video-game consoles? No matter, I can always save the orange for later, I mused and stuck it into my bag. Suddenly, Rosalie and Alice burst into laughter. Jasper and Emmett immediately stopped their conversation and asked their wives what had happened.
“The new boy, Edward Masen, just rejected another date with the pretense of having to go to the veterinarian to get his dog fixed,” Alice informed us.
