    MR. RUFFLES TIME!

    It was Ashley who convinced Spencer to call Gray back. Spencer was willing to be grumpy for weeks but the brunette changed her mind. Actually, it didn’t so much require changing as calming down. Spencer knew she’d been somewhat out of line with Gray. He hadn’t deserved to be kicked out and Spencer was a little bit crazy. What she appreciated was that Ashley managed to talk her into calling Gray back without actually making her feel bad about having kicked him out in the first place. That took skill.

    The phone call itself was rather less pain free and if Ashley hadn’t been sitting next to her, literally holding her hand, Spencer wasn’t sure she could have done it. She’d been so righteous with Gray of late that sucking it in and admitting she was wrong was quite hard to do. Not that she’d admit it, but Spencer admitting she was wrong was a rare thing. One of her down fallings actually.

    “Gray”

    “Spencer”, she wasn’t surprised he was so curt. She deserved it.

    “Look, that was unfair of me. I’m sorry.” Spencer glanced at Ashley who smiled encouragingly and squeezed her hand. “I had no right to just drop that on you and kick you out. Nothing you asked was unfair. I’m really sorry. It’s just been a roller coaster for me and I cracked a little.”

    “Believe it or not I get that.” Gray could be quite supportive, Spencer had forgotten that. Even if his tone of voice was still cautious. “Listen, we need to talk again but not tonight. Let me at least get my head part way around this.”

    Spencer owed him that at the very least. “Call me ok. When you have time.”

    “I will. And Spencer, please look after yourself.”

    “I will. I promise. Call soon Gray, I have to tell Mom and Dad and…” she trailed off.

    “I promise. I won’t leave it too long. Hold off on telling them till we’ve talked yeah?”

    “Of course.”

    Actually that had turned out to be relatively painless. Spencer knew she underestimated Gray a lot of the time. He was anything but a complete loss, it was just a pity she didn’t love him. Glancing again at the girl who was holding her hand she felt her heart flip in her chest and had some idea of why she didn’t love her ex-husband. Pushing those feelings down inside her she squeezed Ashleys’ hand and released the grip. Getting off the couch she looked for something to busy herself with.

    17. *Tears of Joy*…*Heart Swells*… :) I have the biggest grin on my face right now! This chapter was too cute! Loved it. Ashley is the greatest. You might as well just put a cape and fancy belt on her and call her Super Ashley….WOW. This story just gets me everytime. I do apreciate Gay’s supportiveness, but Ashley just takes the cake with the whole sign language thing. I wanted to jump into the computer and hug her right there. This is truely the best story ever! LOVE LOVE LOVE…LOVED IT! PMS :)

God, Ashley’s the most patient sweetheart ever, isn’t she? Are you ever going to explore her past in later chapters and explain how she mellowed out so much? Or is this fic just about Spence and HER realizations? I’m loving it thoroughly! And I take back comments about your killing them and making them run away. You handle them so sweetly most of the time, how could anyone run away from that? :D

    29. ello all. I think you’ll find I’m the official rebel scamp, what with going AWOL for a rather lengthy amount of time. I would love to tell you stories of trips to distant lands, battles with mystical beasts, and a quest for hidden treasures, however the truth is boring – I’ve been producing television. Also I’ve managed to go one up from ‘entertaining’ fictional characters to actualy meeting a girl who looks like Mandy Musgrave – unfortunately she’s German, although that can be combatted by just watching her and not listening to a word she says (just kidding;-) anyway, considering she isn’t aware of the fact I actually fancy the ass off her, I have decided to just continue flirting ridiculously with one of my bosses as it gets me away with murder (not literally), and also to return to the board and continue to be amazed by the writing that appears on it as if by magic. Clom, you’re a genius mate, and I love this fic, think the way you portray both characters is ace, love how it’s all unfolding, and generally enjoy reading it very very much :-) and Goober, how is my son? you treating him well? I’ve not seen him for a while due to my busy schedule, it’s tough being the creator of all things ;-)

He failed his driving exam, so he’s destined to face at least another millenium as Christ on a bike and not Christ in a car. He also didn’t realize he needed a motorcycle license to ride his moped, so he’s lost that, too. Right now he’s hanging with the girls under Clom’s forcefield for a vacation. He’s rocking the speedo and the neon colored nose sunblock and it’s not pretty, so I advise you to stay away for a little while longer, at least.
