“No, no coffee skiing for you.”
“Dang.” Ashley grimaced jokingly. Spencer laughed, when did grocery shopping get fun? “How did you get her to behave today?”
“Mr. Ruffles promised to look after her.” Spencer confided.
“And you trust that elephant?” Ashley mocked horror, “He looks a little shifty to me!”
“Aw heck no, he’s very dependable. Not shifty in the slightest. He’s feisty though. One hell of a glare.” Spence nodded seriously.
“Ok. It’s your grave. If we get buried in Moccona, I’m so blaming you and Ruffles.”
“Mr. Ruffles” Spencer corrected.
“Sorry, Mr. Ruffles.” Ashley looked suitably contrite.
Elly chose that moment to appear with the aforementioned elephant and sign hopefully at her mother. “Can we have chocolate milk?”
“Nestle or cocoa?” Ashley signed.
“Nestle pink!” Elly signed back.
Spencer nodded and Elly ran off excitedly to grab the strawberry flavoured concoction. Spencer was musing on the disgusting nature of the drink when she stopped dead in the aisle. Ashley made it a few more steps before she realized that Spencer was stationary. She turned, looking at the blonde quizzically.
“You just…” Spencer looked at Ashley and then at Elly.
“What?” confusion laced Ashleys voice and expression.
“You signed. To Elly. Just then.”
“Wasn’t I supposed to?”
“Uh sure. Except you… when did you learn how to sign?” It hadn’t escaped her notice that it had been finger spelling and slow, but it was still sign language.
Ashley blushed and shoved her hands in her pockets. She scuffed the supermarket linoleum with her sneaker tip and looked down.
“I’ve been taking classes as the Y”
“Ashley are you for real?” Spencer was in awe.
“Yeah” the curly haired head shot up and a look of panic crossed her face. “Why? Is that not ok? It’s just, I figure I’m gonna be part of your life, I should be able to talk to Elly right?”
Spencer was speechless. In a whirlwind of emotion she took two steps forward and pulled Ashley into a warm, solid hug. No one had ever done anything like this before. God, Gray and her mother couldn’t sign, couldn’t be bothered to go learn, and Ashley had just done it; just like that. No questions, no big announcement. Just so that she could be part of their lives in the easiest way. It was by far the sweetest thing that anyone had ever done for Elly. Spencer thought her heart might break. Pulling back she felt Ashley’s hand come up and wipe a solitary tear from her cheek.
“Thank you” Spencer whispered. “For being the most amazing person I’ve ever met.”
“You haven’t met enough people.”
“I’ve met you. I think that may be all I’ll ever need.”

Yay for you being back, m’dear! I missed you. And I was soooooo waiting for Ashley to bust out with the sign language she had been secretly taking back at the Y!!!! That was so gonna be the clencher with Spencer. Geez, I am totally in love with Ashley, lol. :)

You might as well just put a cape and fancy belt on her and call her Super Ashley….WOW. This story just gets me everytime. I do apreciate Gay’s supportiveness, but Ashley just takes the cake with the whole sign language thing. I wanted to jump into the computer and hug her right there. This is truely the best story ever! I’m glad Spencer is starting to admit to herself that she’s in love with Ashley. It’s so glaringly obvious to everyone, but she seems to be dealing with it better than I expected. God, Ashley’s the most patient sweetheart ever, isn’t she? Are you ever going to explore her past in later chapters and explain how she mellowed out so much? Or is this fic just about Spence and HER realizations? I’m loving it thoroughly! And I take back comments about your killing them and making them run away. You handle them so sweetly most of the time, how could anyone run away from that? :D

ello all. I think you’ll find I’m the official rebel scamp, what with going AWOL for a rather lengthy amount of time. I would love to tell you stories of trips to distant lands, battles with mystical beasts, and a quest for hidden treasures, however the truth is boring – I’ve been producing television. Also I’ve managed to go one up from ‘entertaining’ fictional characters to actualy meeting a girl who looks like Mandy Musgrave – unfortunately she’s German, although that can be combatted by just watching her and not listening to a word she says (just kidding;-) anyway, considering she isn’t aware of the fact I actually fancy the ass off her, I have decided to just continue flirting ridiculously with one of my bosses as it gets me away with murder (not literally), and also to return to the board and continue to be amazed by the writing that appears on it as if by magic. Clom, you’re a genius mate, and I love this fic, think the way you portray both characters is ace, love how it’s all unfolding, and generally enjoy reading it very very much :-) and Goober, how is my son? you treating him well? I’ve not seen him for a while due to my busy schedule, it’s tough being the creator of all things ;-)
