Waking on Sunday was no picnic. She’d been exhausted enough that she slept through Gray leaving for work, and it was only her daughter jumping on her excitedly that woke her up. Grumbling unnecessarily, she got them ready to go to Spencer’s parents house. Spencer had no idea how she was going to face her mother with her thoughts in a maelstrom as they were, but she had to make the effort anyway. Elly was excited, she loved her grandparents. Truth be told, they were great grandparents. They were great parents, but the way her mother stared at her sometimes made Spencer nervous. It was like Paula could see inside her daughter’s brain and pick out her most intimate thoughts. At the moment, Spencer was less than keen for her mother to read her mind. Too late now, they were almost there.
For Spencer, the afternoon was a combination of slow torture and reprieve. Her mother wouldn’t let up quizzing her about Gray and showing her off to all their friends.
“This is my daughter. Her husband couldn’t be here, he’s an engineer. He’s just gorgeous, you should meet him.” Ok, so Paula didn’t quite gush that much, but to Spencer that’s what it all sounded like. Sometimes she wondered if she should just offer him up to her mother and let it be. That thought disturbed her greatly. Luckily her father was around to distract her. Watching him play with Elly and just talking to him made her happier.
Worse still was when she was trapped with her mother in the kitchen. The constant diatribe about Spencer’s life was starting to push her closer and closer to the edge. She tried desperately to hold her tongue but her mother’s nagging was stronger.
“You know, you and Gray should consider coming away with us this summer. We’re heading up to… and it was such a fun time last year…. You two can get started on …” her mother mused, not really paying attention to Spencer, who was only really hearing every third sentence. Suddenly she broke:
“Hell Mom, I can’t get Gray to stay home for dinner, his new project is so fucking interesting. What makes you think I can get him to come away with you and Dad?” the blonde snapped, unable to hold back any longer.
“Spencer that language…” her mother began to scold.
“No Mom” Spencer was on a roll and nothing was going to stop her now. “Your perfect son-in-law isn’t so perfect you know. He’s never home, and to be honest, I don’t know if he gives a flying fuck about his wife or his daughter.” Ignoring her mothers open mouth and her own language she threw her hands up, rant in full swing. “You like him so much? You marry him. Because if he doesn’t get his ass into gear sometime in the near future and actually spend some time with his family, he won’t have one.”
It took mere seconds for the silence between the two women to harden into a moment that seemed frozen in time. It also took the same amount of time for Spencer to realize what she’d said. What she’d finally articulated. And she knew, in that space, in that time, that everything she’d just yelled hadn’t really been said to her mother. She’d said it to herself.

ooooo. DRAMA. She needs to divorce that jerk and get with ashley. YEAH! And then her daughter Elly can live with the Spash-est couple ever and they would all get along. PMS
like Goober, I too reckon that Gray’s having an affair. Wouldn’t it be vair vair amusant if it was with Ashley. not. Love the story Clom, despite the fact you’re obviously completely nuts! keep up the battle, for I admire your courage, determination and total insanity! hurrah! oh, and I was going to write something immensely amsuing as a response, but then my mate dragged me to the gym and I think the endorphins have killed my brain cells – I think it explains the intelligence (or lack thereof) of bodybuilders. I hope a big I LOVE YOU suffices, lol.
ok that was totaly intense…gosh, only certain people can make posts that intense that dont have ash adn spence togethre…just the mere thought…hmmm…great job! post more soon!

Methinks Gray be cheating on Spencer, thus making it ok in my mind for Spencer to have fun with Ashley… the girl needs some lovin’ of the Davies kind in her life. Oh, great Clomle. Despite your world travels you still manage to create a killer story that keeps getting better and better. I love your portrayal of Spencer’s inner turmoil. I think Gray’s having an affair, too, and hopefully it’ll all be revealed sooner rather than later, so we can get on with the Spashley loving. Just kidding. I love the pace and the struggle through painful realizations. If they just fell into each other’s arms, it’d be unrealistic and trite. Keep it going exactly how it’s going now! And a veritable ARMY of steel rabbits are on their way. I ask again, does that earn a double post soon? Come on, fellow commentors. Harrass Clomle until we get a two-for-one!

ok so yea…. omg waiting for that.. and yea i agree with gifted on the gray thing… i think hes cheating. but idk im thinking that still doesnt give spence the go-ahead. but yano that coming form someone in love.. and someone whos been cheted on.. it sux, nobody deserves it.
